Thought experiment - If PSU and Purdue were switched
« on: October 09, 2023, 09:26:48 AM »
If PSU and Purdue were switched, how many times would PSU had won the West.

2014: No
2015: No
2016: Yes
2017: Maybe but slight edge to Wisc
- Wisc finished 9-0 and 13-1 in 2017. ONLY loss to OSU in CCG 27-21. PSU finished 7-2. Only 2 losses to OSU 39-38 and Mich 27-24. Wisc beat Mich 24-10. Assuming PSU would get Purdue's schedule, Purdue did play Mich in 2017. But if PSU beats Wisc, they would still win the West with 8-1 record. Slight edge to Wisc because they beat Mich and PSU lost to Mich
2018 - maybe but slight edge to NW. PSU finished 6-3 with losses to OSU, Mich and MSU. NW finished 8-1 with a loss to Mich in reg season and loss to OSU in CCG. But NW beat MSU. But if PSU would have beat NW, they would have won west with 7-2 record. Slight edge to NW because NW beat MSU and PSU lost to MSU
2019 - maybe but slight edge to Wisc. PSU lost to Minn. WISC beat Minn.
2020 - No
2021 - No
2022 - Yes

So in the end, PSU would have won the West twice, in 2016 and 2022. And Maybe would have won in 2017, 2018, 2019 but comparing scores, I am GUESSING Wisc, NW, and Wisc still win the West in 2017, 2018, 2019

This is interesting. Did you completely swap their schedules too? They would miss UM and OSU multiple times.

PSU has been good for a while. They look even better now. If they were in the West, PSU wouldn't ever have to play PSU (duh).

Yes, Purdue and PSU would switch schedules.  So Indiana would become PSU''s annual cross-over rival. Purdue would become Iowa' s annual cross-over rival.  Which is pretty much a wash for Iowa and Indiana schedule wise.  IOWA and Indiana still both played PSU and Purdue every year.

If PSU had been in the west all this time, we'd have had A LOT of PSU-OSU B1GCGs.  It'd be boring how often they'd have faced off.
