Coaches didn't move around nearly as much circa 1990, as I recall. A good coach would stay put, usually, for a while, even at some lesser program that hit success. Imagine Tech goes 10-3 this year and 10-4 next year, is Key likely to stay put, even with a major raise? I don't think so. We all know how key a coach is in CFB (ha).
Now programs are desparate if they want to be elite. Some say the Florida coach is at risk, maybe he's not, but if Florida is 8-5 next year ...
How long was Bobby Bowden at FSU? A while, and nobody apparently came calling. I suspect these days he would have been poached after 4 seasons there.
