Spurrier could be a jerk, but he was hilariously so.  Mullen isn't funny, he's just a jerk, IMHO.  I hope Bama knocks them into the Middle Ages frankly.

UGA can now "claim" to be East co-champions.  yay.
Steve was a jerk with charm. Dan at time has the abrasiveness of a billow pad. But he's quite a coach. Usually a questionable DC hire is a problem, Dan won 80 percent of his games with the guy. (Ironically, Richt went 36-18 with Grantham with 2-3 solid to good defenses in four years, then the bottom fell out that last year)

A Rutgers news source with a pretty good breakdown of the issues surrounding the "Champions Weekend" match-ups:

https://www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/2020/12/big-ten-champions-week-final-projections-rutgers-2-potential-matchups-after-maryland-win-rivalry-games-re-scheduled.html?outputType=amp

They project:

  • tOSU v NU
  • PU @ IU
  • MN @ UW
Then either:
  • MSU @ UMD
  • M @ IA
  • PSU @ IL
  • RU @ UNL
Or:
  • UMD @ M
  • MSU @ UNL
  • PSU @ IL
  • IA @ RU

Cool.  We lost to LSU's JV team due to a thrown shoe.

so not sure how long they stay with Frost but the Gophers were short a lot of "starters" today but the back ups played well.  not sure why Frost plays two QB's.  I thought  Martinez did a great job getting out of the pocket and make things happen.  i thought we would see more plays with either QB running and scrambling
the Huskers will stay with Frost at least a couple more seasons

the first time McCaffrey came in the game it was because Martiniz got dinged.  Of course the playcaller figured the defense would expect McCaffrey to run, so he outsmarter them and had him throw 2 passes.  Obviously the 2nd pass was off target and the TE deflected it to the defense for a pick.  I don't think the 2nd QB played again.

Martinez had 15 rushing attempts, more than any other back.  I'd have rather seen the senior back Mills get more carries.  I'd have liked to seen more rushing attempts and fewer passes.  Especially the 2 throws by McCaffrey.  29 pass attempts way too many against that defense.

As they should,he just didn't forget how to coach. At UCF he couldn't swing a dead cat with out hitting a couple dozen prospects

I think the head coach, the O-coordinator/WR coach, and the QB coach are smart enough.

Gotta get the O-line much better.  Gotta find RBs

Needs smarter players

the defense???  Gonna need much more talent/playmakers

Needs smarter players

He's got to hit FLA hard and tell them "move west young man".Opportunities to start immediately galore, land one or two decent kids and they can network

Oh, it's kind of known. He was apparently so arrogant that he blew a Miami interview a few years back. He put his name in for every job and had to wait. He went 19-7 in two years at Miss State, wanted desperately to leave and had to wait two more years for when he was a third choice. He nearly started a fight, acted like a jackass and then came out in a halloween costume for the press conference. And there was the Jeffery Simmons mess.

And here's the thing, I assume most CFB coaches are some level of jerk. He's on the high end. But I also think he's a hell of a coach. Low effort evaluator and decent, not-great recruiter, but he might be the best offensive mind alive. He is so, so good on that front.
I think he plans his newsworthy takes.  He's very comfortable and friendly with the Gator press.  He's also coy about why players are out until after the game is played.  I think he's one of those people who want to keep the program in the news, even if its for a comment like "we shouldda played less games."  It gets articles written about him and the program that wouldn't have been written otherwise.
Spurrier just had a sarcastic sense of humor.  He wasn't as calculated, simply being who he is.

I never thought of Spurrier as charming

He's an interesting mix:  arrogant, sarcastic, religious, hokey, and willing to poke his rivals.  70 years old, working a nordic track with his shirt off.  Talk smack, but then score 50 points to back it up.

The most underrated thing about him was that he always took the blame - he always put it on the coaches....even if it was during an insult to a player.  He once told a kid that messed up that it wasn't his fault he messed up, it was Spurrier's own fault for putting him out on the field.
But to the press, it was always, "we gotta coach 'em up better."

He's got poor grammar.  Maybe that helps him in his job.
He should have said "fewer games."
