I've been working between Ft Worth and OKC for the past 3 weeks and all I can say is F humidity. I still ain't used to it. I miss my scorching dry heat.
Agree. Dry heat >> humidity. I can take Phoenix/Las Vegas weather over Houston/New Orleans any day of the week. Austin is somewhere in the middle, mostly good but occasionally brutal humidity.
It works the other way, too. I was working in Minnesota through December many years ago and went out at 7:30 AM to start my car. I was wearing jeans and short sleeves and it felt fine, I started my car, headed back into the hotel, grabbed a jacket and a mini muffin, a went to work. It was 5 degrees F that morning. But because it was cold but clear and completely still, I didn't really feel it.
On the other hand, if it's below freezing here (which obviously rarely happens) it's because a major front came through. It's typically going to be windy, rainy, and it feels way colder than that calm, supercold morning in Minneapolis. (Obviously staying outside for more than that 5 minutes, it would have started to feel a lot colder, no arguing that!)
Also please note I'm not saying Minneapolis doesn't have brutally cold weather, obviously it does. There were other days when it was snowing, windy, blustery cold. Overall those bits were miserable for this native Texican. I was there from mid October through Dec 23rd and the day I was leaving the locals told me I was lucky to be going home before it got really cold. I think it was about 10 degrees F and snowing that day. And they were 100% correct, I felt lucky to be headed home before the really cold stuff hit.
