ARTICLE 4.
a. Game Clock. Playing time shall be kept with a game clock that may be
either a stopwatch operated by the line judge, back judge, field judge or side
judge, or a game clock operated by an assistant under the direction of the
appropriate judge. The type of game clock and the location of the game clock
operator shall be determined by the game management. The game clock
operator may be located on the sideline or in the traditional press box area.
If the clock operator is in the traditional press box, it is recommended the
location is between the goal lines. This location shall be shielded from public
interference and shall afford a direct and unobstructed view of the playing
field. The game clock shall not display tenths of seconds.

Timekeepers are appointed by the Big Ten, and it's almost always an employee of the home school. Their names are not disclosed (since the "Spartan Bob" incident).

That isn't my read at all.  They claim the clock operator failed to stop the clock when he should have.  The refs overturned it on review, which is not without precedent.

I don't read a whole lot into this either way.  One second is such a short time no doubt the clock operator stops it too late throughout much of the game, a second here and there that rarely matters.  Maybe he pulls the trigger too soon at times.  I don't know who operates the clock in CFB, maybe a "referee" up in the booth.

Right.  And multiple videos show the stadium and TV clocks hitting zero prior to the defender who stepped out of bounds touching the ball, which is their contention.  If the clocks we can see are at zero prior to the defender touching the ball, there has to be another clock.  Ergo, a super secret clock the rest of us can't see.

This is either:
1)  false
2)  extraordinarily dumb, because it means the players and coaches are never operating from the "real" clock.  The "real" clock being a stopwatch that one of the judges has.

I don't know if that is correct or not, or if the ball was OB with one second.

I don't know, except that the game is in the books and that won't change.

Of course it won't change.  And of course UM won't forfeit or anything of the like, and neither would any of our schools if it happened to them.  

What we can still root for is somebody is held accountable and is canned.  Also apparently not without precedent.

used to it by now. Michigan right up there with Bama, Ohio State, and ND as most hated schools in the land.

That is absolutely incorrect. Clock stops when the ball touches the ground out of bounds or touches an object or person out of bounds.  A player is out of bounds when he touches out of bounds and continues to be out of bounds until he establishes himself in bounds.  So the "official" explanation is wmu step out of bounds and never came back in bounds so when he touched the ball the clock would stop since it made the ball out of bounds.  The only issue did the time expired before he touched the ball.

It doesn't really matter, but yeah, I'll be saying "YAY" if I see UM losing subsequent games from here, even to ND or Eastern Michigan.

But officials stopped the celebration and reviewed the play. They ultimately determined that Davis had touched the football while already established out of bounds with one second remaining, meaning the ball became dead at that moment and the clock should have stopped.

That gave Michigan one more chance. And this time, Underwood’s Hail Mary found JJ Buchanan, who came down with the 47-yard touchdown pass as time expired — this time for good — giving Michigan a 13-12 victory.

The inevitable Eastern Michigan loss in the not too distant future will sting a lot worse than a loss to WMU, since they are in neighboring towns.
