A conference made up of Universities that could have opted out thus leveraging anything the conference were fprcing them to do

The B1G and the SEC are expanding and escalating.  It is quite literally, their fault and their fault alone, that the money has come to the point that others have to respond.

I'll use Texas as an example-- in the B12 UT was able to tolerate a $10M-$20M per year delta in its revenue compared to the B1G or SEC.  But when the new contracts were being discussed for all conferences, and the new numbers were showing that the new delta was about to become more like $60M-$70M per year, then the delta was no longer tolerable. There's no way Texas could remain competitive against even the poorest universities in the B1G or SEC, under the current structure.

it is entirely on the conferences for expanding and escalating the arms race.  For the universities it's simply become a game of survival.

If you're suggesting a school like Texas should just sit still and take it, while the B1G is about to be paying $100M/year to all of its member schools, then that's a silly and naive point of view.  We might just as well become the U of Chicago and entirely opt out of sports, because that's how competitive we'd be.

Dang. I turned off the PAC-12 CCG after the first quarter when it looked like USC was running away with it.

Under the old systems USC would’ve probably played for the MNC. It makes you wonder about the rest of the PAC since they were 11-1. The PAC as a whole is very weak and has been for awhile.

I’m thinking KSU wins today, as does UGA and Michigan.

Playoff will be
UGA, Michigan, OSU, Bama.

New boss = Old boss.

KSU can definitely win, but I'll be surprised if it happens.  TCU is just charmed this year.

Of course I expect that charm to end if/when they have to play Georgia.

I don't.

But I don't think we'll end up testing the theory, either.

94 are you into the eggnogg already?I never remotely suggested that - Universities is a wide blankett I wasn't singling out any one.Expanding the conferences which inevitably leads to expanding the season is corrupt IMO.Exposing kids to either more time away from studies or more risk to injury. The majority are still on campus to graduate with a degree. Golderned sensitive Texican

One day a university will just make up a major and call it sports studies. Practice will count as class, it’ll just be all sports. Then the objective is one and the same. No more poultry science majors or basket weaving or whatever. They are there to play football.

Heck on 2nd thought I bet they’re already doing it.

oh yeah, they're definitely already doing it. And why not?

Engineering is set up to be pretty much a vocational program, my "liberal arts" requirements were minimal.  So, just because engineering is considered more prestigious than sports-study, it's allowed to be a vocational program and sports is not?  That doesn't make any sense to me, at all.

So now schools have designated paths for "sports study" and I'm fine with it.  Most kids won't make it as NFL or NBA or MLB players, but a lot of them can become successful sports agents or sports marketers, so why not set up a curriculum to help them get there?  I'm all for it.
