and the cameraman probably wasn't carrying the flag

but, the cameraman might not want to stick his nose in

well, it wasn't a crime for the previous 60 minutes and they still have their pads on and they're still on the field

but, technically, yer right,  The clock ran out
Yes, the activity on the field is consensual and specifically protected under the law.  Anything beyond that would be criminal assault.

But you already know this and are being deliberately pedantic.

If you want to say, "plant the flag is fine, just be ready for the consequences" then an appropriate response is "assaulting someone for insulting grass is fine, just be ready for the potential jailtime."  All fair and even.

Yeah, osu players ripping the flag away and running off with it and him just grabbing it back as it wasn’t their property to run off with justifies 3 of them, with helmets and pads on, shoving him and trying to put him to the ground. And I’m guessing they had no idea it was Jason Avant as he was in street clothes and his face was covered because of the temperature

win with class

no need to plant a flag - it's not your house
They can't win with class or lose with grace, booger is the only coach who encourages it.Look how many times he got in other coaches grill.Ya pretty Pete Carrol had it coming but not the others,he just waited til he won to pop off

Assaulting the opposing team members because they insulted your grass isn't "losing with grace."  Buckeyes don't have the moral high ground here.

When did they plant a flag in Michigan? you'r asking for it any where - i didn't see that as i turned the game off half way thru the 4th.Guess you'd have to watch everything.Michigan got in 3 fights in "hosting" in their stadium  over a 7 home game stretch so they bring their baggage. Not singing the blues if they get a preliminary strike in return. Not condoning any of it BTW

Yeah. Complete class. Absolutely no reason for a rival to want to celebrate a win over such a sophisticated university that does nothing but show elegance and high character standards.

let's let law enforcement sort it out - law enforcement from both sides used pepper spray
Michigan players were assaulting people right along ... takes two to tango
Bucks may have thrown the first punch, but Michigan provoked the melee.

I don't think either has the moral high ground
I'll wait to see what the officials in charge have to say after the investigation

Yes, of course neither side has the moral high ground.  Which is why I felt compelled to correct a Buckeye fan who was attempting to take the high ground.

As for letting the the officials resolve it, that's fine for the legal issues and potential conference rules violations.  But I don't see any ambiguity in the moral implications, both sides are guilty and neither gets to thumb its nose at the other.

3 fights over 7 home games in the tunnel of Michigan Stadium and only one common denominator

The Big Ten Conference has fined Michigan and Ohio State $100k each for their involvement in Saturday’s postgame brawl, the conference announced.

“The Big Ten Conference has determined that the actions of both teams following the Michigan-Ohio State football game on Saturday, November 30, 2024, violated the Big Ten Sportsmanship Policy,” the conference said in a press release.

Following Michigan’s 13-10 victory, a Wolverines player attempted to plant a Michigan banner on the Buckeyes logo at midfield in Ohio Stadium, which led to pushing and shoving and eventually punches being thrown by members of both teams. Ohio State defensive end Jack Sawyer was seen snatching the flag and throwing it away.

It took several minutes for stadium security and police to separate the two teams, with pepper spray being deployed to get the situation under control, according to multiple media reports. The television broadcast showed players wiping their eyes and coughing in the aftermath of the brawl.

“Not only did the actions of both teams violate fundamental elements of sportsmanship such as respect and civility, the nature of the incident also jeopardized the safety of participants and bystanders,” the Big Ten added.

According to the Big Ten, no other fines or suspensions will be handed out.
