Can't speak at all for Italian food in Omaha but "North" is an Italy-Italian place, not an American-Italian place.  It basically focuses on Tuscany and some coastal areas of Northern Italy as its inspiration.

I have been to Casa Bovina in Lincoln once

daughter was buyin and yes it was a tasting menu

don't recall any eggplant that evening

Places well known for their American-Italian and not specifically known for Italy-Italian.  In fact in many ways proudly defiant of Italy-Italian.  Makes perfect sense to me.

I've come to accept that very few ethnic restaurants exist in the US, and that's OK with me, usually.  I can see some neighborhood places being very close.

I'm reliably informed that many ingredients available in the US are not quite the same as they are elsewhere.

This is probably true, but I think it's mostly because there's actually no such thing as "authentic ethnic" cuisine anyway.  No matter how truly authentic you try to make it, somebody's great grandma from the old country made it differently so it's not "real" ethnic food anyway.  Nobody's ever going to agree so there's little point in making the distinctions.

I mean, heck, just ask 25 different people from Louisiana whether or not okra belongs in gumbo, see how fast you get stabbed or shot.

Lulz all you want, but the blow in red is what I've seen in Northern* Italy. I'll spare the rest of the American menu.

For this we'll consider Tuscany part of the North, which we know is not true in reality.




Arancini is Sicilian, and Cacao e Pepe is Rome. (I saw Cacao e Pepe pizza elsewhere on the menu - you can Lulz at that.)

We've been to Livorno, Siena, Florence, Trieste, Venice, Verona, Milan, Turin and many other smaller towns.

I think we did see fried calamari in Siena and Florence. Everywhere else it's grilled/sauteed. 

WTF is a zucca chip? The artichokes we saw were mostly fried and wonderful.

Lulz...

Just go here. It will cost less.
