I miss being able to walk to good eats when we lived at both places in Palatine. Closest place to us here is 2 miles away, here in the marina. Walkable sure, but when it's really hot out, not so much.
That was definitely one of the weirdest learning curves of moving south.

I forgot about the clubhouse. They have good food, and we can walk there on the cart path or even take the cart.

We lived in the 'burbs in Cincy, everything required a car, a couple places were a mile or so.  Now we go days without driving except when my wife goes to pilates.

We have four OK places within one block, I rather like the Mexican place.  The Nook was not great the last few times we went, OK, but they seem to have dropped off.  It's crowded much of the time, maybe they figured they could get by with less.  There also is a "Nashville fried chicken" spot that is pretty solid, and a Shake Shack.

shake shack just doesn't sound right to me but the name of the place shouldn't determine the quality of the grub

Their burgers are "OK", better than McDs of course but double the price.  I went once.  Nothing special to me.  Farm Burger is better, but it's five blocks, Killer Burger is my fav but it's a couple miles.

We lived in a downtown, on a train line to the big City. Lots of places around there to eat, all within walking distance. That's the only part I miss about that town. Well, that and some of the people and my volunteer work.

If we got into a car, there were obviously many more choices within 10-15 minutes.

My office was in the BMO bank building.

Sickies Garage Burgers & Brews  doesn't sound that good to me but, their over priced burgers are pretty good

Fierocks are here! Red wine braised short rib, caramelized onions, havarti and gruyere baked to perfection in puff pastry. Served with buttery mashed potatoes and red wine gravy

In FL, if you live right on the beach, there's lots of walking-distance restaurants.  That was one of my favorite things about going each summer, just walking to whichever place we picked in my flip-flops.  Mostly seafood, sure, but Mexican, Italian, sandwich shops, and the burger/steak places.

I'd eat the heck out of that.

Don't even need silverware.
