maybe that was a little bit of the issue.........

We stopped at 372 Gellert Blvd, Daly City, CA on the way to the airport.  I sent my daughters inside to order, (they really wanted to try In & Out) I wasn't hungry a tall and don't enjoy fast food so I sat in the car.  After 10 minutes or more, I went inside check it out.   I had a bite of one of their burgers, it was very good.  I then grabbed a few fries.  They were not good.

When I mentioned that the fries were bad, they said they agreed and that's why they hadn't eaten many.

Should have asked for your cash back after what they're charging - that alone would leave a bad taste in my mouth

In n Out is surprisingly reasonable compared to some of the other fast food joints.

hah, that's the REAL reason I stayed in the car for 10 minutes - not my tab!

Now that I think about it, they don't seem like they would be very good with ketchup, which is probably how most people try them. Or they would get them "animal style" which likely does get soggy, with the sauce just sitting on them for an extended period of time.

You need to get the animal sauce packet on the side, and apply it just before commencing consumption.

I've only tried them "animal style" once, and didn't enjoy it. Part of it was that it was just weird to have a melted slice of American cheese on fries. I like cheese fries--with an actual cheese sauce. IMHO the animal style fries is just hiding weak-ass fries underneath other stuff that tastes better than the fries.

(Portillos has the best cheese fries IMHO. That cheese sauce is like crack.)

Yeah, I've never braved the actual animal style, with the cheese and the grilled onions in addition to the animal sauce.

Seems a bit much.

Animal style is like loaded fries/tots, etc. it’s not that great. The standard sauce packets are pretty good, though.

No one goes to In-n-Out because of the fries. You can do better elsewhere. But the burgers are quite good, and at a low price point for fast food. So you go in knowing the fries will be mediocre, and still enjoy it.

They are definitely not in the same stratosphere as the Jay Birds Blazin' Fries.

Tots often have enough crisp to stand up to being loaded.

The food truck I used to love, the Viking Truck, had these loaded tots called "dragon eggs" that were amazing.
