We enjoyed dinner, in part because my wife talked at length with a lady who was singing with an acoustic guitar so it wasn't too loud.  The place was rather chilly.  My dinner was quite good, I had some chicken and noodle thing.  My wife had duck which she said was pretty solid and haricot vert, which I understand is green beans, which she said were good, and sweet potato puree which she said was too sweet.  I've never seen sweet potatoes in France.

The singer lady said they had a long time server who has cancer and they are doing a benefit for her tomorrow (today), and it turned out she was at the bar, which was packed.  So we stopped by and gave her our regards, she was in good spirits.  I left a donation with the manager.  The wine prices I saw on line were apparently old ones, way out of date, no bargains to be had on that list.  I ordered a mediocre Rhone for her duck.  They did have Hennessey VSOP for $12 which is pretty solid.

The place has white table cloths, which is one homage to being "French".  They have outdoor dining which looked nice, but it was 93°F when we arrived.  My wife said she'd go back, which is high praise from her.  Was it "French"?  Pretty much what one finds in the US outside some ultra posh place, but we only had the two dinner items.
Shoulda had something French.

Well, the jury is out, I think, as to just how "French" it is.  The menu is in French, at least the top part.  They offer a couple of "Italian" style options too.

My wife ordered the foie gras as an appetizer which is not my favorite, she said it was OK, but not cooked like she prefers.  Anyway, we'll go back, it was enjoyable which counts for a lot.

Going here tonight with the inlaws, it's my MIL's birthday and this is her choice.  It's a regional chain of cajun/seafood places that started in Houston.  It's actually pretty good, and I'm not buying, so hooray!

Edit: Darn, there's an X in the name which the software is automatically converting to the word twitter, so the URL won't resolve properly.  Thanks, Elon!

Anyway, it's called Pappadeux.  The one in Austin on Research Blvd if you're interested in seeing the menu.

Any suggestions down in Naples? We'll be there this weekend and need one more night filled. We have Trulucks, Chops City Grill and Ocean Prime lined up. I know you're the opposite direction of flying into RSW, just curious if you have an recommendations or head further South. Nothing better than Gulf side of Florida.

We had one of those when I lived in Georgia back in 2005-07. I thought it was quite good.

I believe we also had the sister property, Pappacito's.

I may have hit it up at some point when I've been on layover in DFW, but can't recall whether I've actually eaten there at the time or whether that was purely liquid sustenance...

Yeah the "Pappas" family has quite a few different concepts.  Pappadeux is the cajun/seafood one.  Pappasito's is Tex-Mex, Pappas' Brothers Steakhouse, and several others.  They're all good, usually on the pricey side for whatever their specialty is.

Yeah, and at the time (and potentially still) the Mexican food that was nearby Marietta GA was... Terrible. So Pappasito's was good, even if it was Tex-Mex :57:
