I'm lucky that Grubhub and other delivery places can't find me
saves me a ton of $$$
I'm not into take-out anyway
Honestly we rarely do it. Usually we only use Grubhub for pizza delivery, as the local joint no longer has their own drivers (due to Grubhub).

Originally the kids weren't going to be showing up today until late (well after dinner). My wife is onboarding a new employee this week, and I had that big presentation for work, so we were going to go out to our little wine bar and then over to this restaurant for dinner tonight, especially since her office closes early on Fridays so we'd have an earlier start.

Well, the kids' schedule changed; they're coming this afternoon. And I got home from San Diego early enough to cook on Tuesday; we were going to do takeout that day but pulled forward our menu by one day, freeing up Thursday to be "TBD". We contemplated going to go to that restaurant anyway. But we just didn't want to leave the house by the time she got home.

For us, it's the rarity of actually going out to restaurants / ordering in that makes it so much more of a letdown when we do it and the food sucks.

Man, we go out pretty much every Friday.  After a long week, we have no desire to cook.  There are a lot of places around here with a great happy hour and neither of us eat all that much these days, so we can split a few apps and get out of there for $20-$25 in food total.

Drinks on the other hand... :)

went to an old school place in Omaha last night.
stand in line to order your food in the back - pay cash there at order
get all drinks at the bar, pay cash there

75 cent wings were good, only one sauce (Franks with butter) traditional
Supposedly the best burger in Omaha - I'll have to try it to believe it.  Some pretty good competition

Food was $17
Budweiser on tap! $4 a pint

We generally don't go out on Fridays when we have the kids... Especially this past year where my oldest frequently has had to work on Fridays, and my youngest has dance from 7-7:50 (which is effing ridiculous on a Friday). But with three kids, going out is annoying and it just ends up adding a bunch to the bill.

We we don't have them, Fridays are generally the day we're most likely to go out for dinner. Especially with my wife getting off work early on Fridays so we can go earlier, do the happy hour thing, etc.

This is a place we like on Fridays:

That said, Fridays are one of the days we like to cook. Often for Mon->Thu we're struggling to make a menu because after a long work day, we don't really want to cook, and many times we're rotating through the "old standby" recipes. It's more about getting it done because we know we have to eat something. Fri->Sun is usually when we put more ambitious or new recipes on the menu, because we're going to have more time. So it's easier to get excited about cooking in that scenario.

Generally we're more likely to go out for lunches than dinners, though.

This is a place that's a brewery/distillery, but has a surprisingly great menu:

Great lunch spot.

Oh I didn't say we take the kids with us on Fridays. :) (They don't really want to anyway, they've got their own stuff going on Fridays)

But of course we see our kids 24/7, if we didn't I'm sure we'd want to spend more quality time with them at the house.

We actually manage to have family dinner, at the dinner table, home-cooked meal, with no phones, 5 days per week.  Even with the kids' busy extracurricular schedules we still make it work, which is great.

I was the youngest and by the time I hit 6th or 7th grade, family dinner time was long gone.  My brother and sister were always at football practice or dance team or whatever, and then once I was in high school, I was at the school from 6:30 AM to 8 PM pretty much every day, between band and drama and academic stuff.

So anyway I'm really proud we've made this work, and the kids tell us they actually really value it as well.  Most of their friends don't have that with their families, and they really marvel that my kids DO have it.  They think we're out of the 50s or something...

I knew places near us in Cincy that had "kids eat free" and we pretty much would be regulars there.  Sometimes a kids meal would be 99 cents, and even though I was the only adult, they let my three have whatever it was.  Monday and Tuesday can be good days at some places for specials.

We prefer going somewhere that has a kind of food we can readily prepare at home.  For me, that's a wide variety.

Bad ass.

We have family dinner at the table most days of the week with no phones, usually no TV, but there are a few exceptions to that one if it's muted.

The mute button on the "telecommand" is a great thing.

Yeah, we do that as well... Basically every night they're here, it's a home cooked meal, at the table, no phones/tv/etc.

When the kids come from their mom's house, the first thing they usually do is look at the menu on the side of the kitchen cabinet to see what we're cooking :57:

we didn't need a menu - when it hit the table, you ate it
