Hmm... The Crystal 58" UHD is a good price, and might be an upgrade over the existing 55"... But there are definitely some much higher-end models if you stick with 55".
It's definitely an upgrade over my existing 55", which already had a great picture.  It's good enough for me.

These old, tired eyes are just fine with the $4/500 TVs. No need to spend any more than that.

oh, it's not because I think she's listening more than my google phone

Alexa just seems VERY annoying

and it's a disservice to young lady I know named Alexa
Ha!  Fair enough.

We have multiple Amazon/Alexa-enabled devices in our house.  They're convenient and, honestly, fun.

But none of them are security or climate.

Question for the group....currently rocking a iPhone 13 circa 2021 or maybe 2022.  I don't recall the year I bough it but it was last years model.

Anyways, the battery life is not what it used to be.  What do you think...should I retire this one and get the latest "year behind" model?  I think iPhone 16 is where we are now.  Or should I just have the battery replaced, probably cost me like $200.

I've had a total of I think 5 iPhones.  5s, 6s, 7, 11, and 13.  Still using the 11 for work, battery life is horrible on that one as well.  But I rarely use it.

I can't help you with this question because I currently have an iPhone X and I'm fine with it.  Battery life is pretty terrible but it lasts 7 or 8  hours and that's about the longest I'm ever away from a place to charge it.

That's true, but I think the higher end models have other features that are more important than the signal quality. IMHO the LCD screen itself isn't probably the determining factor. Higher refresh rates, more brightness, better contrast ratios, etc. On top of generally having higher performance processors, more RAM, etc that make the responsiveness of the TV more snappy. Not that I expect entry-level Samsung to be truly "low end" compared to the bargain basement brands, but it's something that if I own a TV for 8-10 years, I'd rather not be annoyed by it.

refresh rates are important for live sports, but my cheap Samsung has never had a problem

this is also tied to the quality of the input signal

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. My work pays for my phone service, but a few years back went to the bring your own device (BYOD) model. At the time that meant that they offered us all a credit towards buying our own phones and I ended up with a Google Pixel 5. Now the Pixel 10 is available and I'm still using the 5.

Battery life is still decent. I keep telling myself that I'd like to upgrade, but then I know it's going to be an out-of-pocket expense. I even tell myself that I might want to upgrade to a folding phone, but then it's a much larger out-of-pocket expense. And I try to avoid doing things on my phone when I can do them on a PC, so I'm probably not needing the upgrade. So as long as my phone [or its battery] isn't dying, I'll probably hold off.

Depending on your plan, potential trade-in value (if any), and other stuff... AND the battery life falling off... It might be time to finally upgrade. Otherwise you might be throwing $200 at a replacement battery but then find a year down the road that other aspects of the phone start having issues and you've basically thrown away that $200.

But I'd ask whether the "battery life is not what it used to be" is that big of a problem? Can you still make it through a day? I know my phone's battery life isn't what it used to be, but I rarely use it enough that my phone drops below 50% in a day and then I charge it overnight. That's enough for me even if it's not what it used to be.

I only charge my phone to 84% - never 100%. That's why my battery is like new still.
