It was a real thing, but it also became the Gen-X version of "The dog ate my homework."

Got an external Logitech camera that we use for work.  I tend to keep mine disconnected and just do any Teams/Zoom meetings with no video unless I'm presenting, and that's because the mouse tracking is severely delayed and impaired when the camera is connected via USB.

I have no idea why that is, but it's annoying as hell.

This could also go in the grumpy old man thread.  I would like to know what's causing that and if there's a fix for it.  I'm not the only one with that issue.  Several of my coworkers tell me they have the same problem.

Hmm... You seem to not be the only one:

I've pretty much stopped using any wireless devices.  I have a hardwired camera, hardwired headset, and hardwired mouse. At work I also have a hardwired keyboard.  Just too many issues with bluetooth connectivity and latency.

Weird.  The solution doesn't help my work laptop when I'm using it at home, because all of the external hardware is USB-A and the Latitude only has USC-C ports, so we're given USB-C hubs like this:

I have this one

Thing is, at work our laptops are connected to a monitor workstation which directly takes all the hardware connections, including a wired mouse (I have wireless at home).  But even the wired mouse has the same latency problems when the camera is on.  The difference is, at work with the wired mouse, the camera has to be on for the issue to arise, whereas at home the camera only has to be connected--but not even on--for the problem to occur.

That reminds me of a YouTube video I recently saw where a guy was complaining about that kind of stuff a little bit, using a dishwasher as an example.  There's some brand that apparently doesn't work if you connect it to wifi, and he did some digging and found out it's capable of collecting more data about you than you'd think possible for a dishwasher.  The point of his video was basically "Y'all.....what are we doing?"

EDIT:  That should've read "....doesn't work if you don't connect it to wifi."
