I said in the initial post we are just using the "original" 14.  At 18, you can avoid picking way too many teams
It could be interesting to have all 18 and include the playoffs as a part of the game too.  It's almost automatic that we'd have a Big Ten team playing each of the first 2 rounds, and some chance to have a Big Ten team in the semis as well. 

I suppose the problem is you'd use up the Big Ten title game winner and then can't pick them again in the playoffs.

I've participated in NFL survivor league where you had double weeks and needed to make two choices. 
My favorite memory of that is when the commish picked two teams that were playing each other.

I've been in reverse-survivor pools that didn't resolve until the divisional round of the playoffs. Keeping the playoff teams around to fade was part of pick strategy.
