They did exactly what I said they did, before his rookie season. It was part of the condition of drafting him. They knew what they had and wanted him to be polished. It worked - both for the Bulls and for MJ. He gained a lot more endorsements than he would have otherwise.
This was 40+ years ago - the climate has changed.
Today's coaches and players could certainly take it upon themselves to become more polished.
That would be nice.
