Well, this doesn't seem fair, although I'll leave it open through the weekend

I like them both quite a bit.  Dark Side of the Moon is a better album and it's the one I voted for.

But I listen to songs from AfD a lot more often.

I know the Pink Floyd album a bit.  Nothing about the other one.

But there is no way on God's green earth that these are the two best albums of all time.

Well to be clear, we only considered "rockish" albums for this exercise.  And I'd say a lot of people consider Dark Side to be the greatest rock album of all time.

As far as the GnR album, I don't know of anyone that really considers it to be the GOAT, but it's certainly a very popular one from the 80s, and it's merely an artifact of the design of this tournament that it pitted decade-winners against one another in the Final 4.

I know that "a lot of people" think that about Dark Side of the Moon--I knew guys in college who couldn't shut their pie-holes on the subject--so that is a plausible choice.  I would note that Pink Floyd was (were?) able to stand on the shoulders of giants, much more than, say, Buddy Holly or the Beatles.  But Guns N' Roses?  They can't even use apostrophes correctly!

I think this illustrates that a tournament format does not necessarily produce the best candidate as the winner, or the best two candidates as the finalists.

It's a natural result of lopsided brackets. It's like the big ten championship game :57:

I don't disagree with what you're saying, but this is also a tourney for "best rock album" and although Buddy Holly had a lot of hit songs, he didn't produce his art in the album era.  He lived in the radio singles era.  So he's not a realistic contender here.

The Beatles did produce work into the album era, and were well represented in the bracket.  It just turns out that your peers on this message board perhaps think less of them than you do.

Personally I think Willie Nelson Stardust is as good as, or better, than any album we've discussed this entire time.  It is of course not a rock album and therefore also not a contender in this tourney.

I had to vote for Appetite.

It's not that I don't like DSOTM.  It's a great album.  My problem is that my freshman year roommate, while not the worst compared to some of the stories I've heard, was pretty bad.  He was the stereotypical frat boy.

The one thing in particular that drove me crazy is that he couldn't go to sleep at night unless he was listening to music, and he didn't like the feel of headphones, so he just played it as "quietly" as he could.  As annoying as that was, what was worse was that he only really listened to three albums:  Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon, Van Halen 5150, and Led Zepplin Houses of the Holy.  I really like those albums, but if you listen to them over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over......well, you get the idea.

I think votes against Appetite are such of heading the opening riff of Welcome To The Jungle multiple times at every sporting event one attends.

Or Dark Side is much the better album.

Well, I Googled "best rock album of all time" and got the top 50. And . . . .

1.  Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon
2.  Guns N' Roses: Appetite for Destruction

Guns N' Roses--wow.

I wouldn't know those guys if they stood on my front porch and started playing their biggest hits.
