tough call

be really tough for me to vote for the Domers, even if they weren't up against the Huskers

both had blemishes - Boston College wasn't great, neither was 96 Texas
both had losses to great teams, 93 FSU and 96 Zona were great - the Buckeyes remember

I think 93 Nebraska would have beat hell outa the 93 Irish, but the 93 Huskers were better than the 96 Huskers

maybe I'll reserve my vote for a tiebreaker

It is REALLY hard for me to vote for the Domers but I think they are the better of these two. Their loss to BC was simply a bad hangover after the big win over FSU, it happens.

I think that 1996 Nebraska may be a tad overrated based on their proximity to some REALLY good Nebraska teams. This was a rebuilding year for them sandwiched between back-to-back NC's in 1994/5 and another in 1997. The ASU loss wasn't close and it was to a good but not completely great team while the B12CG loss was to a not great Texas team.

well, the loss to Texas was just that voodoo hex crap - no logical explanation, not even bad hangover

many rumors about walkin into the buzzsaw in Tempe that night - some about the O-line not liking the new hotshot QB that transferred in from Stanford

I think it was overconfidence after the 77–28 beatdown in Lincoln the year before.  and the impending motivation the devils had after that beating

Often an upset is due to fumbles, and this game is perhaps a pretty good example of that.  3-0.

6 total fumbles by the Huskers - only 3 lost

Jake did toss one pick

the 3 safeties are crazy - takes some poor luck

other than passing yards the game was even

If anyone wants to poopoo the idea of letdown games, I give you 1993 ND vs BC.  They slayed the dragon, then fell on their face the next week.  These are 20 year old kids.
.
Anywho, that ND team was weird.  Unproductive QB.....kind of ran the option....somehow had 2 All-American CBs AND a shitty pass defense.  But their RBs averaged 6 yards a pop and their KR averaged 41 yds per return.
Because they beat that FSU team and probably had no business doing so makes me not want to pick against them.
.
The 96 Huskers were good, except when they weren't.  Frost was okay, but better in 97.  Green was okay, but not his peak.
If we cut off after 95 and say they were starting again (reloading, retooling, whatever the hell), this team is like the 1990 FSU team.....good, but the returning cast would be better the following year.
