OK Florida and hot other weather boys. Yes, it gets hot here.

Anyone ever hear of belt slip on tires? I bought Continental tires back in May 2020 and the car is now kinda wobbly. My friends think it is due to belt slip from the high heat here. I looked it up and it seems to be a real thing.

Anyone else ever get this?

They have 20K miles on them. These things were $350 (each)!!

Yeah, I've heard of it, I've never had it.  Way back in the day,  the new steel or Aramid belted radials could have this fairly often.   I thought the issue had been resolved.

Could high heat potentiate it?  Yup.  You might look  into summer tires.  They could cut your mpgs a bit.

Check your tires for any sidewall bulging.

First, there are no such things a "Slipped Belts". There are "separated belts" and sometimes those are incorrectly called "slipped".
So rub a GLOVED hand over the tread circumference. The glove is to protect your hand from possible wires sticking out.

You are looking for a bulge. If you find one, drive SLOWLY to the tire shop and replace that tire.

But since the problem goes away, I'm voting for flat spotting where a tire takes a set after sitting in one spot and gradually the flat spot works its way out (due to heat). Try using more inflation pressure (say +5 psi) and see if that changes things. If it does, then it is likely a flat spotting phenomenon.

No bulges based on my inspection.

I'm taking it in today. I think they are under warranty still.

Dont you have a Discount Tires store there

If you buy tires from them plus a small amount for a warranty they replace stuff like this for free

I dont own stock in DT but Ive delt with them for over 30 years and never have they failed to replace a bad tire for free for me

We had the same experience with NTB back up North. I'm pretty confident Tire Kingdom will stand by these. 40K mile warranty. 23K miles on them.

If I need to buy new ones, I'll go summer tires for less money.

The idea of summer tires sounds like BS to me.  Just another way to extract extra dollars.

I've never heard of that having lived in FL for 25 years (albeit north of I-4).
I've also never heard of it having lived in AZ for 16 years, where it's hotter and drier (car plastics and rubbers and hoses becoming brittle).

If there's a wobble, I'd get it checked out and see what they see.

Summer tires would be year-round tires for us. I'm not spending $350 per again though. We don't have a desire to go 180 MPH anymore. I can stomach $200-230 per. That's it.

Ergo, you know nothing about tires apparently.  There are three basic kind of tires today, and they are quite different in capabilities:

Winter tires - excellent at cold temperatures

All Season tires - most folks have these, they are what they say, a compromise

Summer tires - A softer rubber compound meant for hot weather grip, better braking and cornering, often found on sports cars.  They are awful below freezing temperature, and superior over ambient room T.    They don't necessarily cost more, but often do because of their performance orientation.  They can sap fuel economy and may wear faster.

Same.  I'm not understanding expensive-ass tires.  I'd rather get new ones every 60K miles.

I'd ask you if you see a connection with that and mattresses.
Can a $1,000 mattress really be worth it?  As with tires, I'd rather have a $300 mattress for a few years and get a new one.
By year 7, would you rather have an expensive mattress full of skin cells and sweat or a third-purchase NEW mattress?

I'm curious what others think....not to hijack the thread, sorry.

All-Season vs. Summer Tires | The Drive

Like most things, you usually get a "better tire" by spending more, but there is an S-curve in that, and it depends heavily on how you drive and where.

If you want high performance, summer tires are the way to go.  Some of them get extreme with hardly any tread, they are close to slicks.

I get snow tires.
The fact that you said you always have summer tires living where you live makes me say "okay, that makes sense."  Basically, living where I've lived my whole life, there's been no reason to differential between tires.
