it's a beautiful and study piece of furniture,
Umm.....make that "sturdy" piece of furniture.
I wouldn't mind either building some more book cases or buying something nice that's in line with what we're looking for. I'm not particularly motivated to build it myself, nor am I particularly averse to it. Whatever suits us.
The problem right now is space...we don't have it. Our house just isn't that big, and there's no good place for additional cases or shelves. We've vaguely toyed around with the idea of getting into a bigger home because it's not the first time we've thought about something we'd like but not had room for it. But we love our neighborhood and our lot, we have a lot more yard than most suburban homes, and also
OH MY GOD did you see the price of houses around here?!??!! It's like.......what, you have to be rich to afford what was a decent-sized middle class home just 15ish years ago? In the frickin' armpit of Texas??
We've run out of shelf space for books, but we keep getting new ones. The corner case in our bedroom is full, the case I built is full, some other, smaller, cases that litter the other rooms are full, and other books are randomly piling up here and there. Mind you, I told Mrs. DeT we
could shelve some more books if we got rid of some decorations and knick-knacks on the shelves, but she says no, because 1) I didn't build her that case to just hold books (apparently),* and 2) all the stray books still wouldn't fit anyway. So it seems, we're gonna have to wait for her oldest to peace out and then weigh our options with the spare bedroom. In the meantime, it seems there really should be a moratorium imposed on book-buying.
* how tha hell does she know what I built that case for? It's called a "book" case.
