Looking ahead to next off-season.....

Does Dazed and Confused count as a 90's movie if it's set in the 70's?  I think @Gigem 's rules preclude that, but for my age group, it's almost impossible to take that movie out of the 90's cultural touchstone.

It's a 90s movie that wouldn't show up in a "Best 90s" movie tournament like this one, because it's set in the 70s. 

BTW I recently (and because I'm old, 'recently' was probably 18 months ago) re-watched it because my wife had never seen it. She did not think it was particularly good. And upon reflection, neither did I. 

Quintessential "Best 90s" bracket would have to include Swingers and of course Office Space... Hell, they might be 1 seeds.

Well, those are Gigem's rules, but if someone did a 90s tournament there's nothing saying the criteria have to be the same.

I don't love the movie either but as a native Austinite it'll still always hold a special place for me.  I mean heck, their drive-in burger hangout is my actual high school drive-in burger hangout.  We spent a ton of time there.

Eh, that describes a vast catalog of movies that we'd rewatch today.  Doesn't mean they weren't impactful, or that they weren't actually good for their time.

My rules are extremely loose. I included spaceballs in the tournament even though it doesn’t take place in the 80’s. I forgot the exact exemption criteria but basically if a movie was such a cultural touchstone that embodies the spirit of the decade then so be it. I really struggled with ESB and RotJ. Ultimately, I left them out because they’re so good I don’t want them to overshadow anything that is more congruent with the decade.

I actually already was thinking about a 90’s movie tournament for next season. I really wasn’t sure if I could come up with as good of a list as my 80’s. I knew the top 10-15 teams would be damn good, but I worried about the 2nd half. 

After going through the list of candidates it turns out there are also a ton of great movies. It will be a lot of fun. And I’ll get somebody to help with the seeding.

Rock music of 90s>80s..  its not a rout but I'll concede the totality of 90s rock beats 80s rock despite some good peak 80s rock efforts. 
Of course rock of 70s>90s>80s.

I said Rock, not Pop or other genres.
