I've seen bits and pieces over the years. I watched it in it's entirety within the last year (right along St. Elmo's Fire). It was 90% amazing, and I thought the purpose of the film was a) very important, and b) very well done. The ending pissed me off. They go through all that and then cap it off with some cliche shit.

Anyway, the most 80's movie by a mile. Ferris Bueller is *maybe* sniffing 2nd place.

Ferris Bueller was awesome and 80s and is actually my 18yo daughter's favorite movie.  She's constantly asking to watch it and I'm always happy to oblige.

Not easy!

I tried to do a 16-movie field for "Best 80's Movies" (Not the MOST 80's movies) within my neighborhood during COVID. I had to argue for over 45 mins to squeak Amadeus in as the 16 seed. It's hard.

Oh and yeah, agree on the cliche ending of Breakfast Club.  It's a bit disappointing but in a way, that cheeseball ending is part of what makes it all the more 80s.  We're the generation raised on the ABC After-School Special.  That cornball cheesiness was part of the total package.

If people attempted to order an '80s Movie 4-pack',   every SKU in the marketplace would include the Breakfast Club.

Stand by me was set in the 80’s. So even though it came out in 1986 and features many big stars of the era, it’s not an “80’s” movie by rule. 

I put Princess Bride in there because, as I recall, it is set in the 80’s, except it’s somebody telling a story from another era. I was never a huge fan of Princess Bride but it falls in the Beloved movies from the 80’s.

Guys, please hold off on criticizing the list any more, as I said, I basically had it all mapped out and simply messed up the final draft. 

I had like 120 movies under consideration so I had to make some tough choices. 

For example, I’ve never seen St Elmos fire, and to my knowledge it hardly ever gets airtime.  Staying power was one of the criteria that I considered. 

If I omitted Ferris Bueller ( it should definitely be in there as a #1 seed) that was just a goof on my part. Bueller is a perfect example of an 80’s movie with staying power. It’s still quotable and memorable and ever present in pop culture.
