Damn rain delay  :banghead:
To this day it makes me sick.. Like the universe said "sorry you got the Cavs title, we aren't giving you both." The reality is this is the one that would have truly mattered to me.. Also makes me sick that Bauer wanted to play with toys rather than focus on winning a title.

2005 series was my favorite, as a Sox fan.

My interest in baseball has waned.

from college on mlb has been regional for me.  if the royals aren't playing idc.  i get the impression most fans are like that looking at ratings for national broadcasts.

the ncaa's are great though, i watch every yr now regionals on more or less.  softball too.

i do like visiting new parks for games (novelty & all - plus baseball is so much better in person) when i'm working out of town.

Wisconsin eliminated baseball while I was there. I don't think anyone really noticed.

College beisbol is a relatively big deal in Louisiana--specifically LSU.  There was much more interest than most college programs get even before they started winning titles in the 90's.  They are one of the very few, if not the only, baseball teams to run in the black in their own right, not costing the athletic department a dime (read:  taking $ from the profit of the football team).  They have sold out every game for something like 20 yrs, and the stadium is quite large for a college team.  Seats over 10k.  Texas' Disch-Faulk, I believe, is the next largest college beisbol stadium, but seats just over half that, iirc.

Also, sitting in right field and listening to the fans give it to the opposing teams' right fielders is something everybody should witness.

Truth is that most colleges north of the Mason-Dixon line shouldn't bother with baseball, and probably also not with golf. Although at least with golf there's now a LOT of good stuff that can be done indoors via simulators / launch monitors.

Baseball is a sport for the South and West. Just as hockey is a sport for the North / Northeast.

I went in 2003 with my brother and dad, but my mom paid for it as a birthday present for him, not sure what it cost. We got a package and stayed in Phoenix. I also went to the Sugar Bowl when OSU played LSU in '08. I don't recall that being very expensive, but I think we had some connection on that one. Haven't been to anything since the playoffs started, have to think two fan bases in their first championship game in forever will drive up the price.
I didn't see this until now and it sounds like you already made up your mind and I'm not sure if any of this will be helpful but here goes:

2002 NC Game:
My brother and I went. We bought tickets online and met a guy I knew from tOSU who lived in Phoenix. IIRC tickets were ~$1,000 for decent seats. We flew in and out of Vegas (cheaper and, ya know, it is Vegas). All in with tickets, airfare, lodging, etc we were probably around $2k each.

2006 NC Game:
I bought a single package, I think it was around $3k all inclusive.

2007 NC Game:
This one is kinda funny. It was LSU vs tOSU in Louisiana. When the match-up was set ticket prices were INSANE because:
  • LSU fans were local and
  • tOSU always travels well.
My brother and I looked at tickets and IIRC it was around $2,500 for REALLY BAD seats so we decided to pass.

Funny thing happened. As the game got close the ticket price plummeted. I think the scalpers got stuck with inventory and had to bail. My brother and I decided to go at a little under $500/ticket and we just "winged it" for the trip, met up in Tuscaloosa with a friend who lived in Atlanta, ate at Dreamland, had a great time.

So I have to tell you about the seats. I would tell you I sat in the last row of the SuperDome but it was actually worse than that. BEHIND the last row they had a walkway and for that game they set up folding chairs in the walkway so I literally sat behind the last row. When we stood on our chairs we could touch the roof.

2014 CFP Semi-final:
I bought a "GameDay Package" from the tOSU Alumni Association. It was around $1,000 for game tickets plus a pregame event (Steamboat ride) and some other stuff.

I've never been to a CFP Championship. That is a different market because it is all lightning fast since you only have a couple days to get your decision made and pull the trigger. It is more like a FF.

Arkansas and Ole' Miss are both up around 12K these days.

Disch-Faulk seats 6.7K and UT beisbol runs in the black along with UT mens and womens basketball (barely, on the last one).

Surprised the fire marshal let them set seats there.  Money, man.

My favorite SuperDome memory has nothing to do with sports.  It's when I saw Pink Floyd on the Division Bell tour in '94.  I was 15 and couldn't even drive myself there.  I knew we were in for it when the security guards were smoking joints.  There was a cloud about halfway up to the ceiling you couldn't see beyond.  It took me longer than you'd think to figure out what was happening to me and that, yes, you can get high from second-hand smoke.

It's funny how CBB national championship tickets are always cheaper than the semifinals.  It's a Saturday night, you have 4 schools bought in, they have the coaches conference that night.  And now they are always set up so that every seat in a football stadium is open

If you are close to the location, you can get title game tickets for pretty cheap.  My brother and his now wife drove to Atlanta on Sunday to watch the Michigan-Louisville basketball championship in 2013 for like $150 per ticket for seats where you could actually see, not just to claim you were there.
There is one potential flaw in this plan.

It all depends on which teams make the F4 and which teams advance to the CG.

The year I went was the F4 in Atlanta when Matta had Oden, Connally, etc. The semi-finals were:
  • Florida vs UCLA
  • Ohio State vs Georgetown
On Saturday I would guesstimate the fanbase allocation as something like:
  • 50% Florida - Large public school and very nearby
  • 30% Ohio State - Large public school and not too far away
  • 5% UCLA and Georgetown combined (mostly UCLA)
  • 15% just CBB fans who came to see a F4, not following a specific team.

If UCLA and Georgetown had won the semi-finals, you could probably have gotten into the CG for free. Most of the tOSU and UF fans drove anyway so if they had been knocked out on Saturday their fans would have driven home on Sunday.

Instead UF and tOSU advanced and tickets for the CG were expensive from what I saw.

A couple sitting next to us were UCLA fans and they came to the CG on Monday night. They already had the tickets and their flight home wasn't until Tuesday so they decided to go experience a NC even though their team was out. If the situation had been reversed they would have had plenty of room to stretch out on Monday night because my buddy and I would have driven home on Sunday and been at work Monday then watching on TV.

@!*% Pigs and Rebears!  We still lead them in attendance though, I think.  Or tickets sold, anyway.

There was a time when LSU basketball ran in the black, but that was long ago, before Catastrophic Incompetence took over the program.

I'd have to check, but it's possible the gym team pays for itself.  Since the girls started doing well a few years back, gym meets have become something of a family entertainment option.  Draws good crowds for a gym team, from what I hear.  Tickets are just $5 and it's a fun time, so they say.  $5 tickets probably makes it hard to break even, although I don't know what it costs to operate the gym team.

We thought the same thing when we saw where our seats were.

I saw that show twice, once in Cleveland and a few days later in Columbus.

They didn't come to Austin for Division Bell tour but I saw Momentary Lapse of Reason show in Austin in November of '87.  I went with a very cute "older girl" who had a car (actually a full-sized Chevy Blazer with LOTS of room, and it was a very memorable date...)

I turned 16 two weeks later and had my own car, and had a lot more very memorable dates.

Hell, we must be pretty much the same age. I was 15 for the first half of '94 and 16 for the second half. I would have LOVED to have gotten to see that tour... I was huge into Pink Floyd back in those days. Sadly, I never got to see them live.

Right about that time while I was still 15 I do recall seeing Nine Inch Nails at the Rosemont Horizon. It was one of those where I was buddies with a guy who was a year older so he had a car. They had assigned seats and all I could get was floor. I ended up about 12" from the security barrier right in front of the stage for the entire show. It was epic.

Once I inherited a car at 16 (1985 1/2 Ford Escort) I ended up putting a big sound system into it. I recall driving past a cop late at night (doing the speed limit b/c it was a known speed trap) absolutely BLASTING some Floyd. Predictably I get pulled over. I was a good kid so I wasn't drunk or high, and as mentioned wasn't speeding, so they couldn't get me on anything moving-violation wise... But I got a fix-it ticket because my tail light illumination light wasn't working. In fact, it had gotten painted over when my parents had the car repainted when they bought it for my older sister. So I had to replace a light bulb and take it to the local police station to get signed off...

Baseball is a sport for the South and West. Just as hockey is a sport for the North / Northeast.
For years Wisconsin high schools had two separate seasons, some tried to play in spring,  others said F it, well do it in summer.  My school was in the summer league.  I stopped playing cuz of that.  I was going fishing up north in summer not hanging around to play a HS baseball summer leaguem. WI finally killed that recently.  Our school won the final state summer title.  Woo hoo.  Trout was off radar for similar reasons, lousy weather in Jersey.
