Not really. The Bears went to a Superbowl with defense. The defense was pretty good there for a while.
FTFY.

Forest Evashevski
Chuck Long
Nile Kinnick
Cooper Dejean (This is a hard decision - one player from all Iowa defenses of all time (Nile Kinnick, Bob Jeter, Alex Karras, Andre Jackson, Wally Hilgenberg, Adrian Clayborn, Andre Tippett, Jared Devries, Bob Sanders))
I'd go Larry Station for defense. Karras is probably #2 for me.

yeah it's actually crazy....the Bears D was so good for awhile there with Urlacher & Briggs that they went all the way to the Super Bowl with freakin baby-hands Rex Grossman as the QB. Pretty remarkable when you think about it.

I was wondering about him, too.

Purdue:

  • Coach: Jack Mollenkopf. By a landslide. Stands alone.
  • QB: Drew Brees. Honorable mention to Bob Griese but opting for Brees because it's more of the modern passing era.
  • Offense: Leroy Keyes. Honorable mention to Mike Alstott.
  • Defense: Rod Woodson. Honorable mention to Ryan Kerrigan.
Len Dawson has to be right up there, too.

Why?
Didn't lead Purdue to a good record.
More INTs than TDs
Happened to have the highest volume in the B1G (including INTs)
.
Basically anonymous until his 6th year in the NFL.
Why include him here?
.
Hey, I've heard of Dan Fouts!  Maybe he should be on Oregon's Mt. Rushmore!!
Oh wait, horrific garbage production in college.
CAN.....WE....PLEASE....DIFFFERENTIATE....BETWEEN ....COLLEGE...AND.....PRO?!??!?!?!

The man is in the Hall of Fame and is among the best football players to ever put on a helmet. Of course he is going to get a mention.

?????*

Dan Marino

Larry Fitzgerald

Aaron Donald

*Their most successful coaches are coaches more known for their work elsewhere:
-Johnny Majors: 4 Seasons '73-'76 (plus a failed 2nd stint in the mid-90s); .713 winning %; 1976 National Championship; more famous as Tennessee's HC for 16 seasons
-Jackie Sherrill: 5 Seasons; .842 winning %; 3 national championship runs (though did not win outright); more known as coach for Texas A&M and Miss State

Walt Harris and Dave Wannstedt were fired well into winning tenures. Pat Narduzzi is going into his 10th season, the school's longest tenured coach since the 1960s.

Which Hall of Fame?  The overall football HOF located in Bumfuck, VT?

Why, oh why, are there separate Halls of Fame for pro and college football?!?  Gee whiz!  Keeping them separate hurts m-m-m-my brain stem!
