this is likely a 10-2 type playoff team if they had an actual QB.

unfortunately, no QB.
I don’t know man. This defense looked very soft today. They got blown up by Texas. This is a mediocre Michigan team.

Wink is a problem for sure.

But the defense is not being helped out by an offense that is just…putrid.

PUHHHLEASE don’t even get me started on the fucking refs. 10 of Minnesota’s points were complete and utter bullshit aided by the refs.

Minnesota TE didn’t catch the ball before the half, the ball hit the ground and they ruled it a catch which allowed them to sneak off that FG.

And then Minnesota got a free set of downs and 1st and goal off a BULLSHIT personal foul hands to the face phantom call on Mason Graham on 4th and 11 in which Graham blew up the play and caused the turnover on downs.

We can nitpick calls all game.  Michigan got the benefit of the doubt on a bunch of calls....including an out of bounds interception.

You can disagree all you want.....but the offsides call on that kickoff was complete nonsense.  Go figure......refs protecting Michigan.  What's new?

I actually don’t disagree with this. I turned to my wife after that call and said “apparently Vegas doesn’t want Michigan to lose.”

i thought some of the calls were made to keep it close, but this final call was made to ensure a Michigan win: felt gross

Michigan tried and tried to give the jug to the Gophers only to have a ref save their ass.

hopefully this is the worst they play all season in conference play…

they started out great in the first half vs USC and Minnesota and just kind of fell apart in both second half’s. Which is crazy considering Michigan the past 3 seasons was such a dominating 2nd half team and it’s the first half where they had trouble getting it going.

I think this points to poor coaching and bad second half adjustments. They flat out just don’t have the level of co-ordinators and position coaches they used to. Especially on defense. Mike McDonald is an NFL head coach. Jesse Minter is a rising star in the NFL and soon to be NFL head coach. Steve Clinkscale might’ve been the best DB coach in America. Mike Elston might’ve been the best DL coach.

They flat out just don’t have that level of coaching on defense. Wink is 100 years old and washed and was run out of the NFL. The DB and DL coaches ain’t Clink or Elston. Those dudes were special at developing talent and teaching their position groups.

Agree on the coaching.  Found myself wishing Alabama’s OC, Nick Sheridan, was Michigan’s OC while watching that game.  But Orji doesn’t have Milroe’s tools.  Back to thinking Michigan is a 6-6 team this year:

Michigan positives for this game:

1. Michigan passing yards increases 267%

2. Special teams looked good.

3. Defense still looked elite sans Johnson.

4. Field and ball was slippery from the rain.

5. Check to refs cleared.

Orji has nowhere near the burst or top end speed of Milroe. That’s for damn sure. And Milroe sucks as an overall passer but he actually throws a great deep ball. Orji can’t throw anything and he’s like a 4.6 guy. Milroe is a 4.4 or better guy- he’s silly fast for a QB.

Kirk Campbell and Wink have to get the axe at the end of the year or Sherrone will be doomed going forward imo. Nick Sheridan needs to be the first call made for OC and Dave Arranda the first call for DC.

last week Orji had Semaj Morgan in the slot wide open for a TD up the seam, Morgan cooked the USC CB so bad he was wide open by 10 yards- Orji didn't even look at him on the play. Instead Orji double clutched it, stares down the middle of the field and then he actually climbs up the pocket into a sack instead of breaking the pocket.

this week, Orji had Donovan Edwards going in motion out of the backfield to the outside and wide open by 10 yards for a walk-in TD and Orji doesn't even look his way- stares down Colston Loveland for a seam route down the middle of the field and not only does he stare him down he throws it late and throws a floater for an INT. Loveland needs to fight for the ball better and play defense there- but Orji made a poor throw and it's made worse by the fact that he had Edwards wide open all alone on the backside on a wheel route for a walk in TD.

QB play is BAD right now....but still an improvement over Davis Warren who threw an INT every 5 attempts.

The ball was definately out ahead of the gopher BUT i'm not sure the ball went 10 yrs before it may have grazed a gopher That was hard to pick out of the background in the video

Following the contest, the Big Ten did not acknowledge that the original call was incorrect. The conference did change their lineup for future onside kicks, as the Big Ten announced that officiating crews will now position the line judge and head line judge "on the restraining line of the kicking team." The Big Ten added that this change "thereby puts multiple officials in the best position to consistently make the correct judgement." The change, first reported by ESPN, was approved by the NCAA.

The Big Ten noted in its statement that offside penalties are not reviewable by replay. Minnesota was happy with the change, although the result was not what the Gophers had wanted.

"We submitted the play to the Big Ten Coordinator of Officials for review," Minnesota coach P.J. Fleck said in a statement. "The Coordinator informed us the play was too tight to flag. We credit the Big Ten Conference for recognizing the need to make this change to ensure accurate calls in the future."
