Looking ahead to 2022 (since this season is almost over)
« on: November 16, 2021, 04:20:10 PM »
Key Losses:

Offense:
Starting RT - Andrew Steuber - graduation
Starting C - Andrew Vastardis - graduation

Back-up OG - Chuck Filiaga - graduation
Back-up TE - Joel Hoeningford - graduation

Defense:
Starting S - Brad Hawkins - graduation
Back-up NT - Donovan Jeter - graduation

Could Leave Early:
OLB/DE Starter, Aidan Hutchinson - 100% gone to NFL - top 5 pick
OLB/DE Starter, David Ojabo - I'd say 90%+ gone to NFL - he's surging up draft boards and being mocked as 1st rounder everywhere
S/NB Starter, Dax Hill - should stay and work on his flawed man coverage skills- but he'll probably leave for NFL - probably 80/20 imo.
RB Starter, Hassan Haskins - has 1 more year left if he wants it- but could see him going pro- don't think his stock will ever be higher.
LT Starter, Ryan Hayes - has 1 more year as well, doubt he leaves- he's a nice college player- but not a top OL NFL prospect imo
WR Starer, Ronnie Bell - has 1 more year- maybe even 2 bc of that injury- not sure he's a top WR propsect- think he might've been as he was putting up a nice start to the season before the ACL. Would be huge addition to Michigan's WR corps if he comes back in 2022.
LB Starter, Josh Ross - he can get 1 more year, due to previous injury - not sure he's a real pro prospect- might see him back

My guess- Hayes, Bell, and Ross are back. Hayes and Ross aren't legitimate Top 4 round NFL draft picks imo- coming back might help them improve stock. Bell was looking like he could've surged up draft boards the way he started- but injured. He needs a bounce back season- big season from him could get him draft in one of the top 3 rounds. If he came out now- might not even get drafted.

Hutchinson, Ojabao, Hill, and Haskins are gone to the NFL imo. Hutchinson & Ojabo are 1st round locks. Hill will blow up the combine and could find himself in bottom of the 1st or early 2nd. He's gone. Haskins' stock is never going to be higher and he's not a burner so he'll never be a really high pick at RB- and coming back and putting more carries on his body could only potentially hurt his stock.

Cade McNamara and JJ McCarthy will have an all-out battle for the QB job. Going to be interesting. 5* CB Will Johnson will get into that CB rotation and start by end of season. 5* CB Domani Jackson will do same thing if he decides to come.

My take of 2022:

QBs will be fine McNamara and McCarthy
RBs will fine with Corum and Edwards if Haskins leaves.
WRs and TEs should be scary good with the return of Bell
OL should be good again despite the loss of Vastardis and Steuber.

DL not as good without Hutchinson or Ojabao. Maybe someone will step up or Ojabao stays?
LBs will be more experienced and better
DBs should be good as well.

Michigan will contend again for the Big Ten.

Haskins is gone imo. Why put more miles on the body? He's not going to improve his draft stock by coming back, only potential to get hurt imo. Corum & Edwards will be a really nice duo. High on both of them.

WR/TE should be very good with Ronnie Bell coming back healthy.

Losing Vastardis and Steuber will stink- both these guys play really really good.

DL will not even be close- maybe if Ojabo stays but right now I highly doubt Ojabo stays. He's going to be a 1st round pick. Braiden McGregor could breakout. He's shown some real flashes in his very limited action. Kid is super long and athletic for his size.

DT should be better with Hinton & Mazi getting more reps/action this year.

LBs should be really good with lot of young guys getting major action and flashing this year.

DBs should be good- especially if Dax returns. I think he should- but we'll see.

IF Ojabo & Dax come back and they move Dax back to safety where he belongs- then Michigan going to be -pretty good again in 2022 bc the defense shouldn't drop off drastically. BUT those are big ifs. I really think both are more than likely gone.

Especially during a very successful season thus far.  You're not 3-6, dude.

I will not be happy until JJ McCarthy is the QB. Period.

It's Wednesday, it's a reasonable topic.  I don't really know what UGA will have next year, they will be losing a lot.

OSU guesses

QB: Stroud returns. There will be a guy or guys leaving, but guessing who that would be is just a guess
RB: Henderson, Miyan Williams, and Evan Pryor will be the top guys. Master Teague is going through senior day so seems like he is gone.
WR: Olave and Wilson will go pro. Smith-Njigba, Julian Fleming, and Emeka Egbuka will start.
TE: Ruckert will be gone, Gee Scott likely starts, maybe Cade Stover.
OL: Petite-Frere and Thayer Munford will be gone. The starting five will be Dawand Jones, Matthew Jones, Luke Wypler, Harry Miller, and Paris Johnson

DL: Tyreke Smith, Haskell Garrett, Jerron Cage, and Antjuan Jackson are gone. Zach Harrison is a potential early guy. Just guessing, but the starting line next year will be Zach Harrison, Tyleik Williams, Taron Vincent, and JT Tuimoloau.
LB: Think they return everyone here. Teradja Mitchell, Steele Chambers, and Cody Simon start.
CB: Sevyn Banks, Cam Brown, Marcus Williamson gone. The starters will be corners Denzel Burke, Ryan Watts, and Lejond Cavanos, and the safeties will be Josh Proctor and Ronnie Hickman.

ESPN projecting Aidan Hutchinson #2 overall to the Houston Texans and David Ojabo #10 overall to the NY Jets in their latest mock draft for ESPN+. Ojabo gone.

I think Harrison is gone.  He is going to be projected as a mid rounder, then shoot up at the combine.  His athleticism is through the roof, though his production hasn't always matched up.  Another year with LJ may be best for him, but I am not counting on it.
