One of the greatest in a long line of Nebraska I Backs to come out of Omaha Central, Calvin Jones was a star in the Husker backfield.  He was All Big 8 as a sophomore and junior, and was a finalist for the Doak Walker award.

Jones will always be remembered for his record-setting performance at Kansas in 1991.  He took over for an injured teammate and ran 27 times for a (then) school record 294 yards and six touchdowns.  I was on a school trip that day, and remember hearing updates that had scored a touchdown, and another, and another, and….

Texas FB #44 Ricky Brown blocking for RB #34 Ricky Williams, one of the big reasons why Ricky Williams was so successful.

I miss me a great blocking back.  Particluarly those who paid their dues, and due to experience, lack of other options, actually became feature backs by the end

Word up.

Ricky Williams himself was actually the fullback for his first two years.  Priest Holmes was the feature back at the time.

Ricky still got a decent number of carries, but it's pretty incredible to think about what the record would have been, had he been featured all 4 years.

Barring injury, he'd probably still have the record. Durability would be the biggest thing I guess. Ricky seemed plenty durable.

NO. 44 DICK LEBEAU

Born in London, just 30 miles west of Ohio State’s campus, Dick LeBeau played both halfback and cornerback for legendary coach Woody Hayes. He scored two touchdowns in a 31-14 win over Michigan in 1957, which propelled the Buckeyes to the 1957 national championship.
