January 1, 1972:  Alabama quarterback Terry Davis is taken down by Nebraska defensive end Willie Harper. The #1 Cornhuskers manhandled the #2 Crimson Tide 38-6 in the 1972 Orange Bowl to claim their second consecutive national championship.

Dave Schreiner, No. 80



He was the Chicago Tribune Big Ten MVP in 1942, and a consensus All-American. Schreiner was the second Badgers player in school history to make the Heisman ballot, finishing 10th in 1942 (Howard Weiss took sixth in 1938).

Schreiner served his country in World War II and was killed in action in Okinawa in 1945.


Following his death in the war, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1955 and was inducted into the Wisconsin Athletic Department Hall of Fame upon its creation in 1991.

January 1, 1983: Nebraska tight end Jamie Williams (#80) celebrates with teammate Todd Brown after the Huskers defeated LSU 21-20 in the 1983 Orange Bowl. The victory gave head coach Tom Osborne (pictured on the far left) his first Orange Bowl victory.

A Parade All American at Davenport Central High School in Iowa, Jamie Williams and his high school teammate running back Roger Craig both played for the Huskers from 1979 to 1982. Both Williams and Craig went on to long NFL careers. Williams played 12 NFL seasons with the Cardinals, Oilers, 49ers and Raiders.
