Gramstad grew up in Lester, Iowa, as an avid Nebraska Cornhuskers fan.
He played high school football at West Lyon High School in Iowa, where he led his team to a state championship.
He started his college career at Northwestern College (NAIA) as a defensive back before transitioning to quarterback.
As a quarterback at Northwestern, he won an NAIA national championship in 2022 and was named the NAIA Player of the Year in 2023.
Following his success at Northwestern, Gramstad transferred to the University of Nebraska, joining the team as a walk-on (with potential NIL support) for his final year of eligibility.
He appeared in one game for Nebraska in the 2024 season, completing one pass for 11 yards.
