Just couldn't help your self of course Ferentz always wins big games - then he drops the next one
Of course not. However, if you look at the trends, it is obvious.
The annual series was revived in 1977, two years before the Hayden Fry era. They split the series in 77 and 78.
In the Hayden Fry era from 77-98 he went 16-4, but rattled off a 15 game winning streak along the way. (He won his first cyhawk game, but then dropped three straight. Then the 15 game winning streak. His fourth and final loss was in his final Cyhawk game).
Then Ferentz in the pre Matt Campbell era from 1998-2015 was 8-10 vs Iowa St, when Iowa St was a perennial 2 win team. It was almost unbelievable how much he struggled in that series. That is until Matt Campbell came along, when a much lower bar of ineptitude in the series was established.
The Ferentz-Campbell era of the rivalry has been all Iowa. 4-0, to build on a 5 game winning streak overall in the series.
So Ferentz has passed his "can't beat your rival" syndrome onto Matt Campbell, but it mutated along the way where it became an
'every year no matter what" sorta thing instead of a "lose more than you win" type scenario.
