As far as immigrants, you can't just give them a job and say "go!".

They need to learn the language and adapt to the culture. They also need to find housing (and not at taxpayer expense for more than 3-6 months, perhaps). They also need to be tested for health and immunized. It's not as simple as you like to make it. There are also many who do not want to play by the rules.
People can be pretty resourceful when you give them freedom.

If I hire someone to mow my lawn, I don't need them to speak much English, or have a house, and I don't care about their immunizations. I care about them mowing my lawn.

That's not a living wage, and why would you not care about immunization or their housing?

If they are out and about carrying infectious diseases, that spread doesn't bother you at all? Sleeping on the street doesn't bother you at all?

Being resourceful doesn't always equate to a positive. Lots of bad people are resourceful.

All people carry infectious diseases. If I worried that much about them, I would never leave my house. Presumably, they are pretty motivated to not sleep on the street if they are mowing my lawn for money. I don't get how keeping them out of the country does anyone any good. I can't find anyone to mow my lawn, they are stuck somewhere they don't want to be, and we are both poorer for it.

Immigrants are pretty reliably good at being resourceful. This has been shown by pretty much everyone who studies them to any degree. It makes sense, because lazy shiftless people don't up and move to other countries with little assistance.

My wife pays for maids to come clean the place every two weeks.  The ladies are all Hispanic, usually only one of the trio speaks English at all.  My wife speaks a bit of Spanish.  She finds it useful to be able to converse with them about what to do, and not do.

I have no idea of their status.  One of them can drive, it's difficult to get a DL here as an illegal, but I'm sure some manage it.

I'm surprised that anyone would be for completely open borders.  I'm certainly not.

The problem right now is that we don't know who is here, or why.

Some truly want to be here and become productive members of our society. Great for them, and great for us.

That is not all of them and that's what bothers me. I've done a lot of studying too. Most here have.

You can say the same about anyone who travels to Florida from South Dakota. A lot of our government policy is built around knowing everything about everyone, which certainly bothers me.

A person from South Dakota, presuming they are here legally in the first place, is "known" to the government, with few exceptions.  He or she may have a criminal record if they are a criminal.  They will probably have a school record, a work record, etc. etc. etc.  They won't be a complete unknown.  If they commit a crime in Florida, the police will access those records which will be probative.

I think the notion we should have completely open borders is absurd.
