Maybe (?) Iran figured that mounting an inept but large attack would end this knowing nothing would get through.  They checked the box, and Israel checked theirs, something akin to what they did when the US offed Solemani.

It does depend quite a bit on type of gun and his proficiency in using it.  But, usually, a person with a gun can kill'wound more than a person with a knife.

I channel surfed the news last night as we have one channel that has CNN/BBC/Fox News/MSNBC conviently on the same channel, one can switch between them easily.

They all spent most of the time with 'experts' speculating, as usual.  There was of course very little actual news, which it not surprising.

I do wonder if Iran knew this attack had little chance of doing much at all and hoped that would end it.  I hope this ends it as well, but fear it won't.

Usually, a person with a gun can kill more people than a person with a knife.  That seems obvious to me, and is why folks carry guns more than knives.

There of course could be rare exceptions where an individual is highly skilled with a knife and doesn't know how to take the safety of or load the gun properly, if it has a safety.

I think they are in shock.

Israel can put an end to this if it wants to. They need air space - something I think Jordan and Iraq would grant.

This guy killed 6 - exactly what you could kill with most handguns.

Taking the time to change a magazine (assuming he/she had another one) would expose the shooter.

One thing to always pay attention to in a situation involving a shooting is how many have been shot. Keep count. Know when the shooter is vulnerable. Always know where the entries and exits are. Take nothing for granted.

I think "most handguns" out there are semiautomatic with 10+ round magazines, but whatever.

This is based on purchases, not ownership.  Revolvers are fairly rare today.  I do have one, a five shot wheel.  It's kind of painful to shoot.

The 43 is probably the best for conceal out of that list. Lots of recoil on that gun, like most guns that are designed to concealed.

My bodyguard is painful to shoot, even after just 6 rounds. 

But, if you need more than 6 rounds to take out a target, you shouldn't be shooting.
