It's pretty easy for any European to "visit" the US and then simply stay here.  I think nearly every other country checks your passport when you LEAVE, we don't (the airline checks to see you have one).

Closed borders sound nice and all, but a bit more detail as to how would be useful too I think.

The article cites details of how they are getting in. It's no coincidence that a lot of this crime is occurring in... California.

I bought my wife some new earrings on the cruise, they weren't that expensive, and she liked them, fine.  Yesterday, she told me she was cleaning them and dropped one into the sink drain.  Bummer.

She took everything out under the sink and fortunately the piping is the PVC "quick" connection stuff, so I did recover the ring.  Thhe U trap was filthy, gray scum on it, and smelly.  I mean to drop some bleach down the sinks hoping to clear that but forgot to do it.  I did wipe some of it off by finger.  And washed my fingers a lot.

They are studs, I don't know why I called them "rings".  Whatever.

I'm a plumber now, and a lawyer, and a worst selling author.

Open the borders
Yes, to people who want to legally cross, possibly obtain a path to citizenship, and come with good intentions.

I'm all for it.

I wish our government was. Both parties are intent on reducing legal immigration and making us all poorer as a result

Trump's presidency was quite hostile to legal immigration, and he is running for president again and I have seen no evidence he plans to change. The Dems would seem to be more open to it but seem mostly interested in combatting illegal immigration in a more humanitarian way.

I don't think #45 was against legal immigration. If he was, well, his wife...

Anyway, I think he knows we need positive legal immigration. Hell, even his own enterprise depends on legal migrant workers. We need those people to do the jobs most people don't want to do. Farming is top of mind.

I don't know specifically what he tried to do to limit legal immigration, but that would be only one party if he did.  Being "hostile" to a thing is a sentiment, not an action.

What specific actions did Trump take hostile to LEGAL immigration?  He did limit the visitation rights of folks from a few countries, but that isn't immigration.

Hostile = unfriendly, antagonistic, opposed

https://www.cato.org/blog/president-trump-reduced-legal-immigration-he-did-not-reduce-illegal-immigration#:~:text=Trump%20was%20wildly%20successful%20in,first%20term%20through%20November%202020.

President Trump entered the White House with the goal of reducing legal immigration by 63 percent. Trump was wildly successful in reducing legal immigration. By November 2020, the Trump administration reduced the number of green cards issued to people abroad by at least 418,453 and the number of non‐immigrant visas by at least 11,178,668 during his first term through November 2020. President Trump also entered the White House with the goal of eliminating illegal immigration but Trump oversaw a virtual collapse in interior immigration enforcement and the stabilization of the illegal immigrant population. Thus, Trump succeeded in reduce legal immigration and failed to eliminate illegal immigration.
