yeah, no shit.

instead we have to give billions of dollars every year in aid to an already very rich country- Israel- and build a port in Gaza so aid can be delivered so people won't starve to death when we could you know- just tell Israel to knock it the fck off and let aid trucks in...what a novel concept! And who knows how many hundreds of billions to Ukraine before it's all said and done.
Uhhhh, we're not taking the money from one to do the other, lol.

Israel will have received something like $350 billion in foreign aid from the US (adjusted for inflation) since the close of WWII by the time their current MOU runs out in 2028. By far the largest of any foreign nation. Israel is a very rich highly developed nation- we don't need to be giving them aid for jack. They can buy weapons from the US with their cold hard cash if they need them. And not only do we give them aid, but they have been in the top 5 of countries we give aid virtually every year since the 1960's.

This is a big part of why Israel still exists.
It's probably worth it to them.

cool story? why should I or any American for that matter care if that is a big part of why Israel exists or if it's it worth it to them? Lol.

Israel may have needed that aid in the past, they don't now. Economic aid to Israel has pretty much ceased since the early 2000s. It's 99.9% military aid now. Israel is now a thriving, very rich country. They can write checks or borrow money from private capital if they want to buy American weapons that they need to commit it's illegal occupation, war crimes and slaughter of civilians en masse. Why is the American taxpayer paying for this?

Because people are people.  You're letting imaginary lines dictate your thinking.  I'll chalk it up to that instead of the ugly alternative.

Yeeesh.
This isn't even a 2-dimensional understanding of things.

JFC guy. where do you think the money comes from? who ultimately foots the bill? the American taxpayer. Again, why is this something that the American taxpayer should be paying for? newsflash: it isn't.

Before 1967, Israel got relatively little from the US.  Their military gear was mostly French or British based stuff.  The Six Day War changed that.  Egypt et al. was in the Soviet sphere, and we wanted to counter that, Israel was a proxy.

Over time, Israel became a political focal point.  Evangelicals for various reasons decided it was worth supporting, as did most Jews, both groups usually voting for the other party in bloc, so no politician could afford to alienate his "side".  Camp David then secured aid to Israel AND Egypt.

I personally see some value in foreign aid, value for Americans.  This is a global economy, things that happen over there have an impact on us here.  And it really is a small part of overall spending (which I agree should be cut, but won't be, and taxes should go up, but that won't happen either to any real degree).  So, focus on foreign aid, to me, is focusing on your third string long snapper when your QB room is a problem.

Sometimes the best for this country is to help others, but I think "we" go too far much of the time. It's maddening to see how much "we" waste (here, and overseas).

My priorities:

1. Close the borders.
2. Get hold of the fentanyl problem, which will help...
3. Solve the homeless problem.
4. Strengthen our military (enough with the DEI crap).
5. Stop printing money.
6. Drain the swamp.

I doubt any of that really happens no matter who is elected.
