The entire purpose of NATO's existence was as the first secretary General of NATO stated in 1952- "to keep the Soviet Union out, the Americans in, and the Germans down" - welp, Soviet Union disintegrated in 1991, and instead of scaling it back the fking IDIOTS who run the US stupidly and recklessly kept expanding it East.
Vladimir Putin's actions in Ukraine have been the best advertisement for NATO since Stalin.

As I said, it's in the US' interest to not have Europe destroyed every 30-40 years, and is money well spent.

we definitely agree.

stack up the body counts however over the last 70+ years. Israel is like the Michael Jordan of killing and the Palestinians are like G-League scrubs who can barely make the roster.

The Palestinians have been living under occupation in what is essentially an open air prison. Of course there is going to be blowback from that. Obviously not saying the blowback is warranted- as terror attacks and murder of civilians is disgusting and immoral. But it's not as if they are just happening because. Palestinians are living in absolute shit conditions- and have been for 70+ years.

It's not me....history just fundamentally disagrees with you on the "Palestine being occupied by Israel" narrative.  Although I don't blame you, because it is very much a strongly perpetuated narrative, and one anyone who views any legacy media or goes to college has probably heard.  And like the best falsehoods, it actually does have a kernel of truth to it.  But, I think it's shown to be false in a wider context.

It's far too much to type here, and I've also learned facts don't sway people nearly as much as they should (on either side), so I'll spare you the diatribe.  But I don't agree with that narrative, for various reasons.

Your second point is worth addressing.  Palestinians do love in shit conditions, and have been for years.  That's because they do that to themselves.  Every single thing Palestinians attempt to better themselves, Hamas blocks them or screws it up, just like the civilians who tried to leave the area when Israel announced their retaliation well in advance and for civilians to leave in case they were caught in crossfire, and Hamas blocked all the exits.  The a-holes literally kept their own people from leaving the impending strikes.  The worst part is their circumstances are in addition to a multitude of supplies Israel is has given them over the years to better themselves.  One example is pipes to build and repair sewage lines.  What happened to those pipes?  Hamas took it all and built rocket launchers and pipe bombs out of it.  There is a long, long list of the Israeli state giving supplies to Gaza that the citizens never see and get no benefit from.

It is crap conditions, and the people responsible for it are unfortunately the people the Gazans elected, and still support.  It is highly questionable at this point whether the Gazans could vote out Hamas if they wanted to, but look at interviews with anyone from the Gaza strip, or read their writing, or meet someone from there.....they do seem to still support Hamas in spite of it all, probably because they are taught literally from birth that Israel is their evil oppressor.  But blaming Israel for the crap conditions Hamas causes isn't helpful.

Why should the US put pressure on Israel to stop?  If a guy repeatedly breaks into your house and tries to kill you, and he tells everyone, loudly, for three quarters of a century that he's going to kill you, and you finally pick up a shotgun and fire at him as he's breaking in one of your windows, and I tell you to knock it off, you'd have every right to tell me to F off and go to hell.
I love Israel as a place, but I wouldn’t describe them as just a passive person getting put upon until it snaps.

Israel gives it pretty good and has for a long time. In this analogy, they break plenty of windows and doors.

No such thing as a one sided peace.  Not between Israel and Hamas or the US and Iran.  But that may be news to some people in DC and NYC.

yeah no shit.

we make peace with our enemies, not our friends. this idea that we can't/shouldn't negotiate with our enemies is just stupid.

speaking of Iran- wonder where that country is today if the US doesn't use it's CIA to overthrow a secular Democratically elected gov't at the behest of oil companies in 1953 and then install a repressive dictator puppet and back said dictator to the hilt for nearly 30 years. They'd probably be A LOT better off, needless to say. There's pretty good reasons why they hate us....and it's not because we're just so awesome and free....

Yeah, or not. It's not nearly the advertisement you think it is.

Ukraine is in complete ruins in large part because of it's insane death march to join NATO/EU- and the US never actually you know- went to bat for Ukraine. Sure- we sent them a bunch of newly printed money, loan guarantees, weapons, and slapped some sanctions on Russia. Even blew up a Russian pipeline or two. Bye bye NordStream. But that's it. US didn't get directly involved and put boots on the ground or actually attack Russia. And US never will/would. Not for Ukraine. Ukraine's corrupt and stupid leaders took the line of BS America was selling them and just listened to the Americans- even listened to US' lapdog idiot bitchboys over at the UK when Boris Johnson flew to Kiev and pressured Zelensky not to soothe for a peace deal- all while many of the corrupt dipshits running Ukraine lined their pockets with free US cash all whilst letting their country get destroyed and blown to pieces. Russia? Well, they're just fine. Most of Europe's economies however have been in the toilet and inflation has been sky high for most of them because of the insane cost of energy & food due to said war.

Europe doesn't need NATO to prevent itself from going to war every 30-40 years. Newsflash: the imperial powers that were participating and causing all of those wars throughout the centuries- the British Empire, Holy Roman Empire, German Empire, Third Reich, Austria-Hungary Empire, French Empire, Spanish Empire, Portuguese Empire- have all long been dead. Virtually all of the countries in Western Europe are representative democracies, use the same currency, and are part of the EU. They ain't going to war with each other hombre. Western Europe is just fine without us there.

NATO doesn't need to keep expanding. If anything it should have ceased to exist after the fall of the Soviet Union. And the EU can do whatever it wants. The US doesn't need to babysit for them or use it's CIA to help them overthrow governments and push countries that aren't in Western Europe into the EU.

The U.S. loves short-sighted fixes and then has to deal with the ramifications for decades.  We'd wake ourselves up to take a sleeping pill.
We act like every little tiny aggressor is some titanic threat to our safety and well-being...yet we're the ones with dozens of bases placed strategically around the world.  We are manning the seas at all times.  Satellites, drones, allied with 90% of the 1st world countries....yet we're at all times the elephant scared of the mouse.
.
Why is it so expensive to be this embarrassing?
It's like we've spent a million dollars to protect a 1-story ranch-style house worth $250K.
It's vapid.

FYI, aside from a handful of teams (LA, SF, CHC), the '24 Spring Training ticket prices have lowered, and it's great.
There are $8, 10, 12 tickets again.
Thanks, President Biden!  :57:
