Because until we (the US) began guaranteeing their security under the umbrella of NATO, there was a major, wholesale shooting war on the Continent about ever 30-40 years. Considering that Europe had been destroyed twice in the 35 years prior to the formation of NATO, it was a good investment then and remains so now.
NATO. We own it.

UN too. We own it.

I feel bad for the people in Gaza but, I don't want Americans over there losing their lives trying to prevent both sides from killing each other as they've done for centuries and will be doing centuries from now.
I don’t think we will. We will put some economic pressure on Israel to knock it the hell off. That’s probably not the kind of situation we get directly involved in.

Why should the US put pressure on Israel to stop?  If a guy repeatedly breaks into your house and tries to kill you, and he tells everyone, loudly, for three quarters of a century that he's going to kill you, and you finally pick up a shotgun and fire at him as he's breaking in one of your windows, and I tell you to knock it off, you'd have every right to tell me to F off and go to hell.

Yeah, that happens in war.  It's horrible.  But I don't know what part of "We are going to keep coming to kill you" is hard to understand.  This isn't a one-off.  This is a repeated, sustained, pattern of behavior over decades by a group of people so militantly radical that when a group of them tried to get into Saudi Arabia, the Saudis kicked them out and said "Hell no."  Do you know how crazy and dangerous you have to be for the Saudis to boot you?

There are undoubtedly innocent people in Gaza.  Whoever's left that Hamas hasn't used as human shields, anyway.  They also voted for Hamas and put them in power there.  And none of it takes away Israel's right to combat an enemy that, again, wants to kill them, unashamedly.  And....you know.....put Israeli babies in ovens and baked them back in the most recent horrific attack.

If you want to extend the example of "the guy," well he's coming through your window, again, to kill you, again, but he's got his wife and kid hostage in front of him, but hey......totally let him come in and kill your kids, because hey, if there's innocent people involved on his end you have no choice but to give up and let him keep coming.  Screw the innocent people you're charged with protecting.

Or not.

Also, most reports I've seen of civilian casualties in Gaza come from....wait for it.....Hamas.  Hamas, who has proven to be....less than reliable with their info, over the years.

And by "innocent," I mean civilians who aren't directly involved in Hamas' terrorist activities.  But it's still misrepresenting the situation, because almost every Gazan civilian hates Israel, loves it when Hamas attacks them, and is happy to chant "Death to Israel" to anyone, for any occasion.

"Innocents" don't condone that kind of thing, or indirectly participate/fund/facilitate it, or perpetuate its ideology.  Which Gazans almost universally do.

yup.

The entire purpose of NATO's existence was as the first secretary General of NATO stated in 1952- "to keep the Soviet Union out, the Americans in, and the Germans down" - welp, Soviet Union disintegrated in 1991, and instead of scaling it back the fking IDIOTS who run the US stupidly and recklessly kept expanding it East.

NATO's only reason for existence now is to maintain US dominance in Europe and to secure energy pipelines & shipping lanes in that region of the world. That's it. It's all just US Empire.

US is already directly involved in it. Israel would not be able to maintain it's illegal occupation of Palestine for the last 70 years nor exist as a state or be able to function without the extreme and direct support it receives from the United States.

yeah, no shit. they are literally destroying all of Gaza. they've turned it into a parking lot, indiscriminately bombing schools, hospitals- fking everything. believe over 50% of the population of Gaza are children. they are being slaughtered. it's fking disgusting.

Too late. US is already directly in it. Has been for decades. Israel doesn't produce Tomahawk cruise missiles, F-16's, Apache attack helicopters, tanks, etc., etc., they get all the weapons they use to occupy and slaughter Gaza from the US. Not to mention free $$$$$$ and loan guarantees.

We've got to be the dumbest nation on planet earth. Should've told the Israeli's to fk right off decades ago. Good time would've been right after our "ally" attacked one of our ships in the '60s.

Agree.  No need for us to be involved in that.  Israel, though an ally who could potentially be embroiled in conflicts I'd say the US does have an interest and obligation to help them, is more than capable of dealing with this without any help from us.

It just sucks when I see people demeaning them for rooting out murderers they have finally--FINALLY--had enough of, after repeated terrorist attacks spanning decades, each one of which afterwards Israel magnanimously did not wipe Gaza from the map, but instead gave them resources, food, electricity, etc.

This pansy bs attitude would look at Hitler in WWII and say "Well gee, if France and Poland and the Jews would just quit pissing Hitler off, this would all stop.  Let's tell them to knock if off.  Because peace, and stuff."

"Oh, but Hitler was a military leader and head of state who encroached in other sovereign terrories and sought to take them over."

Yeah, exactly like Hamas.  I wonder, did the Allies liberate Poland and France and say that's enough, no need to risk anymore civilians, or did they go into Germany and deal with the problem?

We live in a time when most people can't fathom ideologies of hate, and evil, and so whoever is doing the shooting at the moment is unpalatable and they must need to quit.  We can't get our heads around entities that want to harm, and for whom no olive branches extended will ever pacify.  In utopia, committing to not militarizing against something/someone pans out.  In reality, unfortunately it doesn't.

That's on the Brits. They started it off after WW1.

Let them deal with it now.
