It's pointless to debate matters of personal taste.  I was acting a little silly and trying to get that across.

But back to the initial point, brad's Five Guys experience seems pretty outrageously overpriced.  I haven't eaten at one in years, and I liked it fine when I did, but no way at those price points.

I've mostly never liked restaurant hamburgers.  Almost always too greasy for me.  In an objective sense, Whataburger has got to be better than, say, McDonald's, but for my tastes, they're effectively equal, in that I don't want either one of them and both are likely to make me yak.

I've had many homemade hamburgers that I really liked, so it's not that I don't like hamburgers.

I've always claimed not to be a food snob, but on burgers I probably am.

Hmmm, I like lots of restaurant burgers.

Believe it or not, Tex-Mex places make some of the absolute best burgers you can get.  Awesome gringo breakfasts too.  Something about the seasoning of the flat top, and probably violating some health codes by never cleaning them...

Vaguely related:

I wish Thomas Sowell's "Basic Economics" was required reading for high school or at least undergrad studies.  Although it's long, it's extremely readable and understandable.  It addresses multiple topics in depth, but seriously, it reads at like a 9th grade level, or less.  I've lent mine to friends over the years who argued for higher minimum wages, UBI, socialist economic principles, or just complained about the prohibitive cost of luxury items as relates to low-income individuals.  It's really a brilliant primer on how basic supply and demand and the allocation of resources affects things downstream on an everyday level, and, indirectly it also shines a light on how political types sometimes go wrong in their thinking when implementing policy.
Thomas Sowell, one of the great economic minds

I honestly feel like most menus have something better or more interesting than the burger.

yup, anything with Kraut is good gross.

I'll never ever understand the consumption of fermented things.  Ever.

Whataburger is good, but you'd better like mustard and onions.
Their double burger is a lot of beef for a fast food burger.

In and Out is good, but I don't know why it's a whole big thing.  And the line is always long, which makes it "not worth it" in my eyes.
Same with Raisin' Canes chicken tenders.  Long-ass lines often....for chicken tenders.  Okay.  Whatever.

I view burgers like I do baseball managers:  you can't do much to make it great, but you can definitely screw things up.  A fast-food burger has a ceiling no one is bypassing.  But you can make a cylinder of bread, meat, and unholiness if you're not careful.  Especially quickly.  Especially made by kids.
