Nope.  I might change the air filter myself, it's easy.

I took the GTI to the dealer for an oil change, and they told me it needed:

New spark plugs
New brake pads and rotors
New battery
New air filter

Total cost over $2K.  I said nyet
I follow a an online sensation(at least to me) a mechanic on YT by the name of Scotty Kilmer.Guy is in his 70's and been around the block so to speak he has had some stellar videos - outs the automotive industry for the kleptos they are. Amazing how the dealerships have basically turned into scam artists that would put Mt Haney to shame.

One guy emailed Scotty he had bought some upscale ride all oil changes lubes for the 1st 10 k were free by the dealer .Think the manufacture recommended at least 2 oil changes by that time.So the Dealer said they did all the recommended/scheduled maintenance but the oil engine light came on not long after leaving - so he took it to an independent shop. They not only didn't change the oil but it was low and they didn't change the cabin air filter like they stated on the service sheet either. Take those chodes out back blind fold them and give them their last smoke :violent-smiley-007:

My dad always told me never to take my vehicle to the dealer for repair.  I did it one time anyway and they wanted $3000 to fix the camshaft, which they said was bad and needed replacing.  I took it to a diesel mechanic in south Austin I trusted more and he said he had bad news, my camshaft sensor was bad and it would be about $300 to replace it.  I told him what the dealership told me, and he asked how long they kept my truck.  I told him I was only there for a little bit before they told me the problem.  He then told me the only way to know if the actual part is bad is to tear into the truck and get to it and look at it, which would take hours, and there's no way they did that in the time they had it.  He surmised they ran their little electronic diagnostic thingy and the sensor showed a faulty part.  Then he told me it would be very rare for the camshaft to really need replacing, but my model truck was notorious for the camshaft sensor going bad, and he had checked the sensor itself and was confident it needed replacing no matter what was going on with the camshaft itself.  He suggested I let him replace it and see what happens.  So I did and it was fine.  New sensor showed everything was A-ok.  So I could've let the dealership replace a part that didn't need replacing, and I'd still have had a bad sensor, and I'd have spent $2700 more dollars than I actually wound up spending.

Short version--I never took a vehicle to a dealer again.

After the warranty expires => no dealer.

I found a good mechanic down here. Only works on German cars, and Volvo.

I have a good relationship with my Chevy dealer

I've known one of the service managers since we were both 15 or 16.
Kurt started working there in high school washing & cleaning cars
The other service manager is a personal friend - his daughter and my youngest were in the same class and very good friends.
know 3 of the salesmen very well - golfers and Husker fans
I purchased all the fleet vehicles for my past company there for 20 years.
Also know a couple of the mechanics in the shop.

They treat me very well and I can trust them.

Well if they're such good friends why are they letting you drive Chevy's? Back in the day hell ya but you couldn't give me a Silverado now

I won't be going back.  I only went to change the oil, once a year, the first three were free.  The problem is finding out who you can trust, usually by finding out who you can't.  I called AAA this morning, they have "decent" battery prices ($189).  The dude came out and measured stuff and said the bat is still good, 5.5 years old.

It was slowish starting when we returned from our trip, I think it was just undercharged with drainage while we were gone.  We probably didn't drive it for 17 days or so.  Parasites.

It starts fine now.  I'm kind of amazed how few CUV hybrids are available in the metro area, like nearly none, and almost zero at the top equipment level.  The closest Kia is in Kentucky.

I've had Fords and Chevys and Chrysler/MOPAR.  None have been particularly better or worse than the others.

Best car we've had by far was the Honda Accord.

Worst car by far was the Toyota Solara.

Not sure if you have an outlet in/near your car with your parking situation, but I bought a relatively inexpensive trickle charger off Amazon for the Jeep, since I can sometimes go a few weeks w/o driving it. Good thing to have if you have a vehicle that may sit a while at a time.

yup, bought the popular battery tender for my 4x4 truck that rarely is driven -only to haul/tow something or when the snow gets deep.

Twice this past summer & fall

Battery TenderĀ® Junior 12V, 750mA Battery Charger

about $40
set it and forget it

That's unfortunate.  I would expect that was a random lemon.  Isn't that basically a Camry?  In which case, I've known many people who loved theirs and never had problems with them, and their service record is really good.

Also everybody with Hondas I've known have also liked theirs, and had hardly any problems with them.  For some reason my back never did well in Honda seats, so they're a no for me, but the wife likes hers.
