I only took out student loans for about $3,000 total.
Something I could easily afford.
When the alternative to dropping out was more loans I made the right decision.

I view a college degree as a magical piece of paper you have to earn, not any particular knowledge base it's supposed to come with.
With the piece of paper, you can get this career job that earns you many more dollars than the alternative.  

I kind of look at it like our money being disconnected from the gold standard.  The degree is the dollar and the knowledge is the gold backing it.  
Not a great plan.

I know we interviewed folks. A degree was necessary but not sufficient. We hired about one in 8 interviewed after selecting the 8 based on campus interviews.  


Dunno how else to do it.

I took the GTI to the dealer for an oil change, and they told me it needed:

New spark plugs
New brake pads and rotors
New battery
New air filter

Total cost over $2K.  I said nyet, might be moving up the CUV purchase.  I had the battery checked this AM by AAA and dude said it read fine.  Brake pads should last longer, it has under 34 K miles, no squealing.  Air filter, OK, maybe so, I can do that myself.

I was a bit amused, and not in a good way.  

There are hardly any Hyundai Tuscon Limited Hybrids anywhere around.
