My wife is very opposed to RVs of any ilk.  As you know, in France, it has different connotations.

Before I met her, I considered "pulling the plug" on living in one place and residing solely in some reasonably small but comfortable RV.  I'd drive about seeing sights and perhaps find a place I liked for a while and then move on.  It still sounds a bit appealing to me now, but not to her, at all.
My i s c & a aggie wife absolutely wants to pull the plug and travel, so that's basically our plan as we near retirement and beyond.

We'll have a reasonably-sized house on some property out in the middle of nowhere, to act as a homebase and a place where the kids can return and meet us should they choose to.  It'll also have a shed/barn for storing the RV.    Beyond that, we'll  be traveling quite a bit.

Unless we scrap that plan entirely, buy some property on a tropical island in the Caribbean, and cut ties from all you gringos forever.

I can't envision doing it before retiring. I look at RVs in the same way as I look at boats--if you're not going to use it a TON, it's not really worth owning. And I know with my lifestyle that I would be using one sparingly, which makes it not worth it.

Post-retirement, I could definitely see it. Especially if I've moved away from my kids, or if my kids have moved away from me. The ability to travel whenever I want, with everything I "need", never having to worry about hotels or whatnot, would be enticing. Especially with a dog (assuming we still have dogs at that point), since I wouldn't want to be traveling constantly if my dog had to be boarded each time... With an RV we could just bring the dog(s) with us.

My notion was post retirement, though I considered getting an RV ahead of time to "try it out" and get used to it.  I know there is some work associated with maintenance of the various and sundry.  I could decide it was too much hassle and I'd just stay in Hiltons instead (as I do pretty much today).

We had a family reunion in Townsend, TN 20+ years ago.  My cousins had RVs, I rented a little cabin in the RV park for me and my kids.  It was nice (until my son put some poison ivy in the fire we had going).  We of course explored their RVs, they were all monsters, 28+ feet as I recall.

When we pass one on the road I say on occasion "That could be us!" and my wife says "That could be YOU."

We do a fair bit of travel now outside NA where an RV really isn't an option.  Of course, our hotels in France this next trip are running $250 a night and up.

Yeah I say pre-retirement since in my current job and a range of similar jobs for this company, or similar companies, I could do it from anywhere.

But of course that's not really true for my wife, she has to build up a base for her clientele and changing geography all the time isn't really conducive to that.

As far as the practicality of a boat or RV, it's not.  There's no way to justify owning either, if you're thinking about ROI or net usage.  On a bad year, we'll only use the RV for about 2-3 weeks total, which includes maybe one solid week, and a bunch of weekends.  On a good year, it's more like 3-5 weeks.  Even still, the RV is sitting idle for 90% of the year.

HOWEVER, when I'd decided to get rid of the Airstream and was balking at the cost of buying new, more modern replacement, my mom of all people-- who is decidedly frugal-- told me this: "Your kids are not going to be small forever, you're running out of time to spend with them, and if they love it and you love it, then this is one of the best ways you're going to have, to make some lasting memories with them."  And she was completely right.  The only ROI you have on something like that, is making memories.

So I get the RV out as much as our schedules allow, and we have a great time, and then it sits idle most of the year, and that's okay with me.  Because the memories are worth it.

Vegas was OK.  We did a lot of walking, ~9 miles on one day.  We did take a few ubers, no cabs.  And we rode the train/tram, whatever they call it.  We also took Elon Musks tunnel.

Two days was great, 3rd day could not get out of there fast enough.

0 days in Vegas is already too many for me.

I try to avoid going there unless there's something I can't do anywhere else. I.e. when we went to Vegas for Adele, we left Saturday morning, drove in, had dinner, saw the show, and we were on the road headed back home by ~8 AM Sunday morning.

It's an outrageous city full of outrageous people and I have very little use for it.

I haven't been to Vegas in ten years, and I couldn't stand being there for very long then.

That said, the first time I went to Vegas was in 2007, and the town was full of drunk Brits cheering on Ricky Hatton.

We usually go for three days, and gamble one night, usually for an hour.  Aside from casinos, the weather can be nicer than here at times and one can lounge by the pool.  There also are two very nice state parks not far away we like.  We've used it as a base to journey to the various NPs in Utah and Grand Canyon and Pace, AZ, etc.  Rental cars are usually cheap.  I had a Mustang convertible and we drove through Death Valley and into Yosemite and down through King's Canyon and Sequoia.  Nice trip.

yup, if you stay away from the strip and Fremont Street and the casinos, which isn't easy, it's a fine city with good weather.
I've even given thought to retiring there.
Cheap flights and lodging and transportation for friends and family to visit or for me to travel to see them
Plenty of golf courses and no snow, to speak of

I was looking for a Terminator doll and found them, finally, on Aisle B, back.

A TV commercial for Vegas is plenty for me.

BUT

Mrs. 847 is a Raider fan (puke) and wants to go see them.
