Exactly.

  • "Why would anyone go down into coal mines and risk black lung? It's a crap job." -- For some people, they have no other options and they need to feed their family.
  • "Why would any poor rice paddie farmer work in a Nike sweatshop making $1/day? It's a crap job." -- For some people, $1/day is better than being a subsistence rice paddie farmer. And they need to feed their family.
  • "Why would anyone work the fry station at McDonald's for minimum wage? It's a crap job." -- For some people, minimum wage is better than no wage... And they need to feed their family.

life is full of choices some make smart choices and some dont

and dont try and tell me these folks werent able to make choices

sometimes these choices are made in early adulthood sometimes later in life

notice I didnt mention that the job was min wage I said no economic value
Notice in what you responded to, I didn't say "no economic value". I said "too low" economic value. You invented that "no" economic value bit.

And I also said that it was a supply/demand issue, where there is a degree to which the economic value of a job is decoupled from the market price for that job if there is an overabundance of supply of people willing/able to do the job.

But either way, if the answer is "work a job with low economic value at a low wage, or starve" -- people might be inclined to pick the job.

Well that used to be the case, anyway.  Nowadays, they'll just take a stab at being a social media influencer.

I advocate for legalized sports betting, because we are all adults here, and yet here come the Barstool trolls with Daddy's money, ruining it for everyone

I mean those are.the principal owners of that garbage site.  There are plenty of podcasts that do simulcasts during games.  If you want to do a gambling centric simulcast from your house, knock yourself out. But this is neither entertaining, or on the up and up. They are literally yelling at players to do things to help the bets they have already put on games.  This is the shit the NCAA should monitor more.closely

in other news in Cincy............

CINCINNATI (WXIX) - Hathaway’s Diner has closed its doors for good after nearly 70 years in downtown Cincinnati.

The restaurant shuttered Wednesday at the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza on Fifth Street after serving their final meals.

“Very sad day for me personally,” Hathaway’s Diner wrote in a post on its Facebook page.

“Between the city with all the food trucks. Plus not as many people working downtown. It just killed our business.

I have never heard of Hathaway's.  I've stayed in that hotel a couple times and dined at their main restaurant (which is pricey), and somehow never saw this other place, or noticed it.

Downtown Cincinnati is struggling.  A friend told me recently that Detroit is now thriving downtown.

I didn't feel too bad about missing the Vandy game and the bye week, but tomorrow we have a concert I don't want to miss that starts at 8 PM.  I might be sneaking a few looks at my phone.

It looks like an awesome concert, to me anyway.
