I sweated a lot when I was a teen, just being nervous about everything in life.  I tried AP once and it made me sweat more.  So, I never used it again.  AP uses aluminum chloride to clog your sweat glands, which sounds like a bad idea, to me.

Has anyone noticed the price spike on deodorant?  Just a regular stick of deodorant cots like $8 now.  Eggs are getting all of the headlines, but Jesus Christ, I'm about to drag my smelly, sweaty ass into my representatives office to figure out what's going on here
Yep. I use the Gillett stuff. Triple what it used to be.

I checked on Amazon briefly, the prices looked about normal to me, but I don't buy this stuff often.  I naturally smell great.

i haven't noticed. The 4-pack just goes into the cart at Costco whenever I run out, and that's so infrequently that I don't even bother looking at the price. I'm gonna buy it anyway.

Eh. There are a lot of things to which I am price conscious. There are a lot of things to which I try to look at when they're going to be on sale and stock up.

The price of deodorant is such a small part of my budget that it doesn't pay to think about. I have to buy it. I buy a 4-pack (maybe it's even a 5-pack idk) about once a year for something like $20... When I run out, I need it. When I run out, I buy it. It's Costco so it's their wholesale price + small cost-of-business adder, and it's in bulk, so I just assume it's the best option I can have at the time I need it.

I'm not going to quit wearing deodorant because the spot price is up 20%. It's a necessity so it goes in the cart when I need it.

When I went off to college I asked my mom which laundry detergent to use and she said "Just use Tide.".  Now that's a consumer they love.

I agree with Beta here, some things are not worth the mental effort.  I usually use Old Spice, same deal, I've tried some off brands that are cheaper and I don't care for them.  We do buy a fair number of Kirkland Brand items, and Kroger has some good private label brands on some things.

You and I have that luxury, at the moment.  Still concerning for those whose budgets have less margins.

Incidentally, I have not noticed that about deodorant.  I have noticed the skyrocketing prices of meat and dairy over the past year or two.  Don't know if that's everywhere or just here.  Wife is a foodie who doesn't believe in lesser quality grocery items, and groceries are a glaring part of our budget.

I certainly noticed meat prices going up a lot except fish.  We're eating at home more often now I think.

Wifey fixed a large pot of lentils with lamb the other day I've been eating over and over.

my 100 level  chemistry prof explained how Tide worked and why it was successful - Marketing

I doubt he got a kickback
My mother also used Tide back in the 70s

Tide worked better "back in the day" mostly because of a chemical called "STP", sodium tripolyphosphate.  It's a good builder, it chelates calcium and magnesium.  Nobody uses it any more though.  And I think every laundry detergent now is either liquid or capsules.  I was around when Tide Liquid was first developed, it has a different cleaning profile from the powder.  And without STP, the powder got a lot worse and started leaving white residue.

We use Gain, now, liquid.  It seems fine.  It's actually difficult to tell much difference in detergents in terms of cleaning.  A really cheap one will show up over time.

And marketing is a massive part of the business.

We are by no means hurting, but we have come to be more conscious of pricing since 3/2020 when my wife retired. She does get a nice pension - about 60% of what she was making, and now is getting SS payments.

The pension is fixed, and our healthcare is substantially more than when she was working.

Meat is crazy in Florida, including beef, chicken and pork. Fish is up due to fuel costs. It's a 30-50 mile run for those captains to get out to where the good fish are, each way. That adds up and we pay for it.

I do Publix. Sometimes I do Aldi, but mostly that's her. And she does Walmart, because I generally refuse to go into Walmart unless it's 7 AM.
