I suspect a lot/most folks who have GD on zone out until they talk about their team.  Then they might take umbrage if someone says something adverse.  As if.

Long ago I had a subscription to Sports Ill, I think I mostly just read about my team, and maybe a funny short item.  How many folks have Nat Geos stacked up in he basement?

I recall the pleasure of morning coffee with the Charlotte Observer back in the day, it was a pretty good paper I thought.  A tradition.  Back in 1977.  Tempis fugit.

I did some dumb things and mostly got away with them.

His family are clinical psychiatrists?

If he started hearing voices saying horrible things when he got powerful hearing aids put in, I'd hate to be captain obvious, buuuuuuut I'd look at the hearing aids.
LEWISTON, Maine (AP) — Five months before the deadliest mass shooting in Maine’s history, the gunman’s family alerted the local sheriff that they were becoming concerned about his deteriorating mental health while he had access to firearms, authorities said Monday.

After the alert, the Sagadohoc County Sheriff’s Office reached out to officials of Robert Card’s Army Reserve unit, which assured deputies that they would speak to Card and make sure he got medical attention, Sheriff Joel Merry said.

The family’s concern about Card’s mental health dated back to early this year before the sheriff’s office was contacted in May, marking the earliest in a string of interactions that police had with the 40-year-old firearms instructor before he marched a Lewiston bowling alley and a bar last Wednesday, killing 18 people and wounding 13 others.

Why don't Canada, the UK, and Australia have mass shootings by mentally ill people?

I'm guessing they do

It took only 11 months for Ontario to experience its next mass shooting after the one in Vaughan in December 2022.

Sault Ste. Marie residents are contending with the loss of five lives in Ontario’s latest mass shooting on Oct. 24. Police say the shooting was a case of intimate partner violence.

A man allegedly killed three young children and one woman, and wounded another woman, before taking his own life. The shooter has been identified as the father of the children.

I think that was mostly due to altered computer rankings, bastardizing the margin of victory component.  I really just wished they left the computers alone instead of compromising them here and there the whole reign of the BCS.

This.  Pick a methodology and have the courage of your convictions to stick with it.  Nothing says "invalid" like constantly changing your formula to make it come out more like people wished it would've come out.

Well, they do have mass killings, and it's not just with guns, which don't pull their own triggers. The same goes for the US.

We only hear about mass killings when a gun(s) is involved.

This is what happened on back when "we" concocted our own computer poll (with ftbobs).  It was simply, and goofy, at first, so "we" modified it.  Why?  To make it come out more like human polls, or what we thought was right.

This is often the curse of computer models.

This is often the curse of computer models.

Mr. PacTen used to have a computer model poll as well, which was as good as anything else, for what it was trying to accomplish.

Pick a philosophy of how teams should be rank-ordered, justify it, figure out how to implement it, and then stick with it.  Six different BCS computers had six different methodologies with six different results, largely because the philosophies of the designer were different.  And that was fine.

I don't even mind some tweaking...most things need tweaking as you test them for validity and realize a model has deficiencies that aren't hitting what you're aiming for.

But fundamentally changing the goal of the model only undermines its own usefulness and admits that your philosophy must have been crap to start with.  Which was the problem with the overall BCS formula.  Every time it did something the pollsters didn't like, they changed it so that it would've come out like the pollsters wanted.  Why even bother with a BCS formula, then?  It would've been more honest to just have polls.

Which is basically what we have now in the playoff committee, whose methodology, best as I can tell, is 1) Whatever we feel like, 2) Whatever makes for the most entertaining tv draw.

Well.....now we're gonna have 12 playoff teams, which combined with NIL and xfer portal means we just have another NFL.  Yay.

This probably won't surprise you, but I'm actually an early proto-version of ChatGPT.  Designers have been testing me out on this board for years.

To make the inevitable early mistakes and incoherent output more plausible, it was determined that I should be posed as an LSU fan.
