Actually, west of San Antonio for about the next 150 miles, is the Texas Hill Country, which is quite beautiful.  It's the next 400 miles beyond that, that are more like southern New Mexico and Arizona.

Texas Hill Country:

Interesting.

I’ve been reading a good LBJ biography that spends a bunch of time talking about parts of hill country that looked like this but got desecrated by agriculture. Though I’m guessing that might be a different part of the area

I’m at a restaurant with a bar and some drunk dink is getting plastered with his pistol hanging out the back pocket of his cargo pants.

Dipshit.

I dunno. Doesn't matter if you're not caught.

I more just rolled my eyes at the cavalier-ness of it. Rarely do I say "That person would be better off shoving a gun in his waistband." But here we are.

Check your state's carry rules:

Bars. In some other places, such as establishments where alcoholic beverages are sold and consumed, firearms are prohibited unless they're handguns carried by people with concealed carry permits and the establishment doesn't post otherwise.

Consumption of alcohol. Even with a permit, it's always illegal to carry a concealed handgun away from your own property while you're drinking alcohol or while you still have any alcohol or illegal drugs in your blood.

It's illegal, so next time step outside and call the police. That dipshit is a menace to society.

I suppose there might be some, but you can tell by looking at it that it's not really ideally suited for farming.

These days there are tons of vineyards out there, though.   The land is pretty good for that.

For the most part it's about 31,000 square miles of the above.

Just because you can carry firearms doesn't mean you should.

Correct.

If I know I'm going to be drinking, I don't carry. Which means I never carry, unless I'm headed to the range (before drinking).

Priorities.

I can't imagine a situation where I'm headed out on the town and would feel the need to take any guns.

Going camping?  Sure, I'll bring it.

Going clubbing?  Uh, no.
