Hey @Honestbuckeye I just saw on the local news (Wink Fort Myers) that Governor Ron has authorized the Florida emergency management office to charter planes to Israel to a) bring supplies to front line fighters and b) to return home with Florida residents.

Please look into this.

For sure!!    They don’t give up emoji permission about how and why but I’ll just contact the governors office

She is booked on a flight from Tel Aviv to Rome tomorrow evening.  Then Rome to Miami next day.

The hope is this doesn’t escalate before that- as both Hezbolah and Syria are saber rattling- and both have precision guided missiles. They can easily strike Tel Aviv and close that airport. Fingers crossed.

She is on the list with the US as someone that wants to come back, but has not heard a thing from them

The Florida one was great except I can’t get past their website. It’s very glitchy.

I keep having the weirdest dissonance about this. 98% of the time, accidentally stuck in Tel Aviv is pretty high upside outcome. But these times we live in, instead a nightmare.

Ugh

just one reason I don't care much about traveling internationally

not the top reason

I would certainly avoid any hot spot regions of the world, or probably warm in most folks view

As a quick callback...
I went with my boys on a boy scout camp / trip to Kings Island over the weekend.  Had to carpool 4 kids from the campsite to KI, so I thought I would ask:  answering one at a time and not getting the answer till I asked all four of them, is Texas a landlocked state?  The first three all said yes.  The fourth (and this was a surprise to me because he is the one that I would have attributed the least amount of confidence in for getting the answer right) looks at the other three and says "Heck no, what are you people idiots?"
I cringe for the next generation....

Texas is not land locked

In fact the port of Houston ranks 1st in the US in foreign waterborne tonnage and 15th in the world

Whew, thanks.  We were all going to overload Google looking it up.

Those kids will figure it out in college, when they're going to South Padre Island...

It’s because the Texas coastline gets almost no coverage in TV and movies. When you think of Florida it’s all alligators, Key West, Destin, Daytona Beach, and Pensacola.

California is all LA, Beach Boys, Malibu, Alcatraz, Golden Gate Bridge.

Texas is the Alamo, Cowboys, John Wayne movies, tumble weeds, and Dallas (TV show not the city). Galveston falls on nobody’s must visit bucket list. SPadre is pretty nice I hear.  Never really been there myself. But it gets no press.
