Sweet potato pie is delicious, a Fall staple of course.

At Thanksgiving we always have the following: sweet potato pie, pumpkin pie, pecan pie, apple pie.
Served with a side of turkey?

But of course.  Two side turkeys in fact-- one smoked, and one deep-fried!

We're thinking of doing Steaksgiving this year instead of making a turkey.

The past two years we bought a half turkey breast from Costco with all the sides for not that much, it was easy and quick and "cheap", maybe $22 or so.  Limits the leftover problem.

The past couple of years it's just been the wife, my two boys, and myself for Thanksgiving, so we've been going with 2 Cornish game hens.  Essentially mini turkeys, but they still have the cavity for adding stuffing.

For the sweet potatoes, we've been doing the roasted root veggies thing for a while now (usually with sweet potatoes, beets, red potatoes, carrots, and parsnips.  Seasoned with salt, garlic, rosemary, and a little paprika).  We've also done sweet potato fries in the air fryer.

I'm just going to need to find different ways to do it so I don't get sick of them.  Sweet potato pie is an option.  My aunt also apparently has a recipe for quiche that uses sweet potatoes for the pie crust.

Also, as a quick add-on.  As can be seen from the picture, I've got some hot peppers in the bottom left corner.

Turns out, we are victims of "pepper-gate".

Those were supposed to be bell peppers, but there apparently was a huge mix up at a factory this year and there were thousands of seed packets that went out mislabeled.  I have absolutely no clue for sure what those are.  They are a little big for cayenne or hatch peppers.  I'm thinking Fresno maybe.  They ARE hot though, I know that for sure.

My kids would kill me.  They ask for turkey all the time.  It's simple enough to smoke one, honestly I should do it more often.

Honestly I've never cared for turkey. But although my wife has a poultry allergy, she's always insisted on making turkey for traditional reasons. While I've grilled her a filet every Thanksgiving anyway.

I think given that she's cooked one I think 7 years running and it's always been excellent, she knows she has nothing left to prove and I'd rather eat steak anyway.

I like turkey if not dry.  You'd think the turkey lobby would be on it encouraging us to eat it more often.

We all have chicken pretty often.  We eat turkey sandwiches.  But not turkey, it's what for dinner.

I'm not a big fan of stuffing while I'm stuffing myself.

I like a crisp white wine with it all, or perhaps a lighter pinot noir.
