I recall as a kid being told that if you got rabies, the treatment involved multiple shots into your stomach.

I'd rather just go ahead of be afraid of water.
Things like that, and how to escape quicksand are things that very much might be true, but probably aren't, and I'm too old to ask my parents whether they were shitting me, because I'm 40

This is true. A co-worker got bitten by a bat a few years ago, and spent much of the next four days getting multiple giant-needle shots while going from one room at Mayo to another.

Did they check the bat or was this precautionary?

I actually was bit by a rattlesnake when I was 20, it was a timber rattlesnake.

After three days of pure agony, the snake died.

That requires catching the bat.  Which both Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger could tell you is tough to do

Postexposure prophylaxis (PEP) consists of a dose of human rabies immune globulin (HRIG) and rabies vaccine given on the day of the rabies exposure, and then a dose of vaccine given again on days 3, 7, and 14. For people who have never been vaccinated against rabies previously, postexposure prophylaxis (PEP) should always include administration of both HRIG and rabies vaccine. The combination of HRIG and vaccine is recommended for both bite and non-bite exposures, regardless of the interval between exposure and initiation of treatment.
People who have been previously vaccinated or are receiving pre-exposure vaccination for rabies should receive only vaccine.
Adverse reactions to rabies vaccine and immune globulin are not common. Newer vaccines in use today cause fewer adverse reactions than previously available vaccines. Mild, local reactions to the rabies vaccine, such as pain, redness, swelling, or itching at the injection site, have been reported. Rarely, symptoms such as headache, nausea, abdominal pain, muscle aches, and dizziness have been reported. Local pain and low-grade fever may follow injection of rabies immune globulin.

What's it like: To get a rabies shot (oklahoman.com)
What's it like: To get a rabies shot (oklahoman.com)

Several years ago, treatment for rabies included 21 injections into a person's stomach. It was extremely painful and involved a long needle. However, since the early 1980s, there's a much different rabies vaccine to treat humans for rabies exposure.

Generally, to treat rabies, you're given a dose of human rabies immune globulin, which provides immediate antibodies until your body can respond to the vaccine and produce its own antibodies.
You're also given four doses of rabies vaccine. Generally, you're given a shot on the day of the exposure, and then again on days three, seven and 14. The vaccine is given in a muscle, usually in the upper arm. This set of vaccinations has proved to be highly effective at preventing rabies if given as soon as possible after an exposure.

It was precautionary.

It also came on the back side of a bachelor party on a Mississippi River houseboat which featured 3 full days of hard drinking. Adding a stint at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester was merely adding insult to the injury of severe hangover.

The German word "Kummerspeck" literally translates to "grief bacon" or "sorrow fat." It refers to weight gain due to emotional eating.

Same here. We've had multiple bats in rentals and tennis rackets work great.

I think I've noticed kickoffs going further over the past 30 years or so, and they of course moved the line back.  I have not noticed punts going further, maybe I'm wrong.  Is this the effect of soccer or the soccer style kickoff?

Mizzou kicker last week nailed a 61 yarder that looked to be good from 65+.

Maybe rugby will have a similar impact on punting?
