It will.  Check out their follow up video where they test it out on various materials/objects. But it's slower than a quick stroke like in the movies.

DYK that at intersections where roundabouts have been installed to replace existing intersections, crashes have been reduced by over 35%, and injury-related crashes have been reduced by over 60%.

That's really interesting, and overall good news. I'd be interested to see what the throughput comparisons look like, especially at peak traffic times.

Most of them are in the boonies, no traffic to speak of, it's a bit to me to encounter one way out in the country.  There is one just north of us now that works better than the old system.  Around town there isn't room for them now with a few exceptions.

Yeah in dense urban areas you can't really retrofit them into the road plan.

I've seen some go in at major suburban interchanges though, where there was plenty of land.  I'm interested because I expect that throughput is superior, but I've never seen any data to prove it.

Yeah, they take up a lot of space, especially when you factor in the stormwater management required. I've designed some in the past. They work.

The one below has been in place since the beginning of time. It was part of my driving test back in the day. The configuration has been modified since then, of course. When I was driving it, it was simply a circle with roads intersecting. It was a mess. Looks much better now, but it would probably confuse me since I grew up with the mess.

I like'em, except the huge ones in Paris that are 8 lanes wide with zero lane markings, those are a bit scary.

At least the French know which way to go round them. The truly terrifying ones are in Britain where they go round the wrong way.

Interesting.

From my anecdotal experience I thought that crashes were UP because I see plenty of fender-benders.

I assumed that ODOT simply accepted that because the severity of crashes is WAY down because instead of deadly 50 MPH T-Bone crashes you are seeing ~30 MPH merger sideswipes which are highly unlikely to be fatal.
