One of the neat features around here is the Beltline, a 23 mile loop around downtown that used to be railroad beds, now converted simply to a concrete path.  It has sparked a ton of development near it, and is very crowded on weekends and well used on weekdays by folks walking, jogging, riding bikes, whatever.  Now there are plans to put a street car on parts of it, which concerns me unless they leave room for the path itself somehow.  The current streetcar is barely used and goes nowhere, so the extension might make it more usable, dunno, but I fear losing what made the Beltline a thing.  In places there doesn't seem to be room for two streetcar lines and the path.  The streetcar concept, to me, is not a very good one.

Student housing ain't what it used to be ....

29 images: Deluxe student tower debuts near Centennial Olympic Park | Urbanize Atlanta

The apartments are being marketed as “lavish” and examples of the “ultimate comfort” in downtown high-rise living, with floorplans ranging from one to five bedrooms. Amenities in the building include a zero-edge pool and heated spa (both situated next to a Jumbotron television), a fitness center and yoga studio, a multi-sport simulator, sky-high fire pits, and a game room.
According to promotional materials, all one-bedroom options in the building (ranging from 471 to 573 square feet) have been claimed by renters.
Meanwhile, five-bedroom units start at $1,255 per month—and that’s per person/bed. The largest five-bedroom option, at 2,026 square feet, is called the Fulham.

Batteries were not under $100 3-4 years ago.
I paid $95 for the Interstate battery in my Benz in 2019. I know I'll need one soon with the extreme heat, so I've priced them out.

$265 if I do it myself.

Why Are Car Batteries So Expensive? - Modded

Ours is original, so 5+ years old now, I'll probably have it changed in January with the oil.

I don't do proactive battery swaps. I wait for a failure.

Granted I have the advantage that we have three vehicles and hell, I could easily walk to and from Autozone (from even with a heavy-ass battery in my arms) because it's like 1/4 mi away.

Is it typical for people to proactively swap out a battery that hasn't yet failed? I hadn't heard of people doing this...

A few years ago, I had to replace my lawn tractor battery. It was in the neighborhood of $40 -$45. I then had to replace it this spring and it was $120. I also need to replace the battery in my 4-wheeler that a few years back (6 or 7) was about $60. It is now $180.

Not me (anymore). M-B's have a backup battery, and the car tells you when the main battery fails.

My GTI will be almost 6 years old by January.  How much longer might the battery last?  Seven years?  Maybe, and maybe by then I'll be an unhappy SAV owner.

Pretty sure I've never had a battery last 5 years. Not in this environment.

I think given that it sounds like you don't drive much, and that your car is in a temperate parking garage and not regularly exposed to extreme heat or cold, that you might expect it to last more than a typical driver who is taking a LOT of trips, particularly short trips and therefore cranking the engine constantly, and parks it out in the hot summer sun or on cold winter nights often.

My F-250 is a 2016 with the original battery and is showing no signs of needing replaced. Granted I don't drive often, less than 5000 miles per year. But the truck sits outside all year experiencing extreme cold and warms summers.

I take it to the dealer for oil changes (once a year), I suspect they check it.

I hardly ever open the hood.

I didn’t know there was another option besides driving it until it failed, jumping it two to three times and finally accepting that I need to replace it.
