I found the history part interesting, to me.  I didn't see it as some "hit piece", but perhaps I missed that part.

I stopped doing fantasy leagues when the no-sports nerd NASA guy in our group who only did it because the rest of us did won the league.
He let it autodraft for him and made no trades.

There's no skill to it, there's so much noise in the system, that it becomes something fun, yet random.  Sort of like picking games played by 20 year olds.

You can work hard at it and turn knobs and pull levers every week....if you win, it's because you made the right moves.....if you don't, well at least you tried your best.
To me, this man is a hero. He is in some ways smarter than all of us, which makes sense with the NASA thing. It also speaks well to a quality auto draft set up.

Played the back at +23(!). Literally halfway between double-bogey golf and triple-bogey golf. Every possible thing that could go wrong, did. Four balls OOB, and one in the drink.

Terrible to feel competent for 9 holes and then feel like the worst duffer that's ever picked up a damn club for 9 holes.
Atta boy get your licks and some aerobics in don't let them short you. Prolly would have beat me by 10-15 stokes if I could flatter myself that much

None of us could beat AI at anything.

Actually my best fantasy football year ever was like 2001(?)  I was in high school, and was on a corporate retreat with my family.  Turned out we had no internet access, so I missed the draft.  So I got autodrafted for, and got Kurt Warner.  I hated it, so I traded him for a different QB, and the Bears defense thrown in, in a league that had 2 starting defense.  That was the year they kept scoring off turnovers.  I went undefeated with an autodrafted team, and trading Kurt Warner for the Bears defense and I think Aaron Brooks and AhmanGreen

Everything against your candidate is a hit piece now.  Makes it easier to swallow than to admit that maybe the top candidates are extremely comprimised

To an extent, I think of it like poker. Skill is useful and it will tend to make you more successful over time, but the cards are out of your control and a bead beat can take you out in an instant.

I'm typically at the top of my leagues, and can only count one time in the last decade where I missed the playoffs--and I was the top scoring team for most of that year and just kept catching other teams on their really good weeks. But getting the championship comes down to a LOT of luck. I recall in last year's championship game I was down 10 points going into MNF, with Stefon Diggs on my side and my opponent having someone from Cincy (don't recall who). I made up 5 of those 10 points on the opening drive. And then, well, Damar Hamlin happened. So I ended up taking second place.

Skill gets you most of the way, but luck in a single-elimination playoff situation can knock you right back out.

Nah, when Tucker Carlson releases something, it's slanted, but its not a "hit piece".  it's all true.  They are all dirty.  South Park was ahead of its time with the 2004 election satire.  It still holds true.  Actually championing anyone should disqualify someone from voting.  At best you have to figure out which one makes you hold your nose the least when you pull the lever

That's a good take.  My firm used to do poker nights, and initially we had enough takers for multiple tables.  I don't like poker, but if the partners are doing a poker night, you do the poker night.  I made it to the main table the first time, and made it to the final 4.  Sometimes you get good cards, and good breaks.  But over time, you will lose.  I lost everything every game after that

To me, this man is a hero. He is in some ways smarter than all of us, which makes sense with the NASA thing. It also speaks well to a quality auto draft set up.
He didn't set anything up.  He simply recognized that he knew nothing about football and didn't get in the way of the computer.
And he didn't edit his team during the season.
If that wins you the league, the entire exercise is simply a fun activity to keep you busy.  It's not actually a skill-based competition.
Some of you might be thinking "duh" with the last part there, but sorry, if we're keeping score, I want to win.  If I win, I want it to be based on what I did, not a random outcome of 73 different variables out of my control.
